Places to stay around Fussen

We are traveling to Germany next month. Anyone have a favorite place to stay in Fussen? We will be traveling late the night before so would like to be close to the castles.

We liked the Gusthof Zum Schluxen near Reutte: you can walk to Neuschwanstein from there; a pleasant, level 1/2 hour stroll.

We, too, stayed in Reutte at Hotel Das Beck. We liked our stay there a lot!

We stayed at the Romantik-Pension Albrecht in Hohenschwangau, right at the foot of Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle. It was in October, and we were the only guests there, and our hostess took very good care of us. I was very happy when she offered to scramble some eggs as part of our breakfast. BTW, I learned about the Albrecht from a recommendation from a fellow Fodorite.

In Füssen, we stayed at Hotel Sonne...fabulous room, wonderful breakfast and extremely helpful staff. I highly recommend it!

We stayed twice at the Hotel zum Hechten in Fuessen.

Maybe 10 minutes from Neuschwanstein.

Why not stay AT the castles - then you don't have to worry about driving into town late at night, finding parking, etc. We really enjoyed the Hotel Mueller in Hohenschwangau (right below the castles). Great service, nice restaurant. They'll arrange your castle tour tickets for you and all you have to do is pick them up in the morning.

Hotel Mueller! We didn't stay there but stayed at a little BB in the area instead. But we didn't plan things well and we're late finding dinner. Went to the hotel restaurant, they were closing. We're we guests? No. But the guy went and got the manager and he said, "I'll find zomething for you" and led us to the dining room set us up with the best soup and sandwiches I've ever tasted. Beautiful dining room. I will stay there if we return.

Thanks for the advice. We have decided to stay at Gusthof Zum Schluxen. We'll let you all know what we think.
