Pizza in Naples
I have been to Naples and did not think the pizza was anything special. It was not anything like N.Y, pizza. I know it is a different style. I hear that Da Michele is the best in Naples, is it that good or just the best in Naples.
Thanks

I live in NYC and have tried many of our "best" pizzerie. We have many pizza places here in NY that turn out very good, even excellent, pizza in the Naples style. But none of them can compare with the best in Naples.
I thought the pizza in Naples was right up there with a few of the best things I've ever eaten in Italy.
Da Michele is but one of the many celebrated Naples pizzerie.
Are you asking because you are planning a trip, or just to express your disappointment with pizza in Naples?

It is not like NY Pizza b/c Buffalo Mozzarella in Naples is not full of fat and oil like mozzarella used in NY pizza.
In Naples we always enjoy Brandi Pizzeria. It was where the Pizza Margherita was first created for Queen Margherita about 120 years ago. Green, white and red ingredients - the colors of the flag of Italian unification were used and the pizza named after the Queen. Fresh basil, tomato grown on Mt Vesuvius and fresh mozzarella made from local water buffalo milk make it a treat in my watering mouth but sure it is different from NY. I suppose "that good" is a subjective opinion to be found in the mouth of the the one eating the slice.

Most good NYC pizza places offer mozzarella di bufala, along with cow milk mozzarella, In any case, they certainly use freshly made (made that day) mozzarella, not the packaged kind that you are referring to. From your comments about NYC pizza, I suspect that you have either not eaten here in a long time, or not eaten in the better places. Just one example of the latter is:

Crunchy, you failed to point out in your first response that are NY Pizza and Naples pizza are different styles b/c of the ingredients, which influences why one may enjoy one more than the other. The question was not if there are places in NY that turn out "naples-style" pizza. Classic NY Pizza does not use Buffalo Mozzarella. The question states NY pizza is not like Naples pizza and I correctly answered the reason is the ingredients, period. If you want to change the question to why are "better places" in NY not like Naples so be it - I'll let you answer that b/c you do state pizza in Naples is better than "the best of NY" that turn out Naples-style pizza. I think you could save your "suspicions" about the last time I ate NY pizza for yourself, no one cares what you suspect personally about me. I've been here for years and have my suspicions about you...

ekscrunchy - I'm glad to see your recommendation of Keste as my hair dresser told me about this pizzeria and said it was the best pizza she's had in NYC and is close to what you get in Italy. I haven't tried it yet but since I now have two recommendations I'm going to make an effort to get there. Thanks!

Adrienne: Try it and let us know! Another good one is Motorino, which has a location on East 12th Street and one in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
I do love salt bagels!
Mr. Motorman: My comment was in response to your assertion that NYC pizzerie use crappy cheese. If you can make a statement like that, it shows us that you have not sampled some of the better pizzas in our city. If that is not the case, perhaps you can tell us your favorites here--we are always on the lookout for good pizza!

Fra_Diavolo: Anchovies.. in Rome, a pizza napoletana is topped with tomato, mozzarella, anchovies and oil and in Naples that same pizza is called pizza romana. Get the insult?
crunchy: Not sure where you read in my post that classic NY pizza topped with mozzarella is, in your eloquent words "crappy" cheese. Again, your judgment not mine. An "assertion" you created in your mind but I did not state. I'll stick to the facts.
It is a fact that aggressive types like who who hang around here and judge others who comment rather than focusing on the question is why the forum is dominated by your type of no-nothing know-it-alls who clearly have an ego problem thus your need to challenge others who comment. I am not sure who you are flexing your muscles for here in this forum but you seem to have a serious ego problem thus your need to try to cut me down. Rather than play with you, I think I'll go grab a slice of sullivan street bakery pizza, aka rustic style pizza, that is sitting on my counter. Or maybe I'll walk over to Bricco for naples-style pizza, which is quite close to my apartment. There are countless other fine pizza places in NY serving classic NY pizza, naples-style and rustic-style. Buon capodanno.
