Really dumb question--are either the Uffizi or Accademia air conditioned?
How long to allow for both (can we do one in the am and one in the afternoon? If so which one when?

regarding the a/c....some rooms in the uffizi are air conditioned but not many. Yes, you can make a reservation for the uffizi in the morning and then the accademia for the afternoon.

To clarify what I wrote above....you can do either of the museums whevever you want....uffizi in morning or accademia in morning and then the other in the afternoon, whatever you prefer. The telephone number is the same for both museums.

I would suggest that you do the Uffizi in the morning while you're still "bright eyed and bushy tailed" (no, this has no sexual connotation; it's a quote from a very famous play from the 1950s, which I expect very few people will recognize) and do it for as long as your energy and, above all, your ability to absorb what you are seeing hold out. (But do try to hit the high spots, which will depend, of course, on your own taste. Many people are drawn to the Botticellis.)

Then have a long, leisurely lunch; preferably in a restaurant with air conditioning. Book the Accademia for late-ish afternoon (depending on how long you want to spend on lunch); there isn't that much of particular interest to see and you can probably get through it in a half-hour or less if you only want to see Michelangelo's newly restored David.

Jck4: Yes, you can make reservations on line, but through agencies that charge an extra fee.
