Paying the London Congestion Charge

This is more of a "nice to know" than any sort of money/deal breaker issue.

Arriving Heathrow with a pre-paid BA car hire voucher through Hertz.

Original plan was to drive around London itself to East Anglia for my stay.

However, now planning to attend the funeral for Ben Haines which is in the Lewisham/New Cross neighborhood. Will drive on from there to East Anglia.

Not sure if that is within the congestion charge area or not. Also not sure whether Hertz will charge regardless (I called them and they had no clue).

Can anyone shed any light on this? I am sure it will have a mention in my resultant trip report.

Thanks.

Lewisham/New Cross is well outside the area. Just don't drive accross London to get there.

The congestion charge is only in very central London - basically from Kensington to the east. There is no reason for you to drive through the center of town to get to Lewisham.

Looking at the maps this is pretty much what I suspected.

Just wanted to be certain at least in my own mind.

Thanks very much to both of you.

If you change your mind when you get there, it is a simple matter to pay the additional fee when you pick up the car. They will ask you about it as a matter of course.

Bobludlow:

Thanks for that information.

I assumed the folks at the desk would ask where I plan to drive the car but wasn't certain just how that all works.
