Prague/Croatia Itinerary - Help Needed
Folks - My wife and I are arriving in Prague May 21st and departing Zagreb May 31st. We are not sure how long to stay in Prague and whether we should rent a car to tour the Istria region of Croatia. Detailed or general advice welcome. Thanks.

You could probably see as much of Prague as you wish in 2 full days, but I'd suggest you spend 3 nights there. On the first day, have a simple itinerary (assuming you don't get in too late) around the Old Town Square. On day two, do the Castle. And on Day 3 see some of the museums or other sights you didn't have the energy for on Day 1. Leave Prague on the morning of Day 4.
You'll be happier in Istria if you have a car. It's more like Tuscany, with a lot of interesting little towns, which you'll miss if you have to rely on public transport.

Totally agree with Doug. You can see so much more with a car in Istria. I would suggest Hum, Bale, Groznjan, Gracsice, Roc, and Motovun (in that order). We found Motovun to be the busiest (lots of tourist buses) but the others were so quiet and pristine.

I'd recommend Rovinj. There are a lot more sights in Pula, but Rovinj is just more beautiful and less busy. You can easily drive around from Rovinj. We give our highest recommendation to the Villa Angelo d'Oro in Rovinj, so you might look at that as a hotel possibility.
