Paris: Room type assigned upon arrival

Hi there,

I'm considering booking the Golden Tulip Opera De Noailles in Paris for 5 nights in April.

The rate for "Room type assigned upon arrival" is well within our budget...but I'm obviously a little skeptical.

Has anyone booked a room under these conditions...and how has it worked out for you.

At the minimum, we would need a double bed for the two of us.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Thank you!!!

This is usually associated with a discount rate - in exchange for going with the run of he house you get a good deal on price. I've done it a couple times and it worked out fine. A check in you can request the type room you want - e.g., double bed versus twin beds - and they usually try to accommodate. In one instance I was upgraded to a suite, but think it may have been due to some shameless flirting with the desk clerk.

You can't specify anything, like wanting a double bed. If you book for two people, of course your room will sleep two people, but how? That depends on what is available. If all the double rooms have been booked, you'll end up in a twin. Or you might end up in a quad!

Done this loads of times, though we normally add a very friendly note about how much we are looking forward to ( fill in here what the hotel loves to specialise in)and could we have a (shower not bath etc), then we repeat the email to the hotel about a week before we travel.

You know the sort of thing, not a grovel but a positive, excited, this would be really nice. Wins most times

Many discount website and booking sites do this, it is the most common thing for a hotel to not guarantee a particular type of room when they are discounting them, etc.

You will always get at least a double, though, if that's what you mean (rather than a single occupancy), but not necessarily one bed versus twins.

Room type assigned on arrival might not give you a double bed - it might only give you 2 single beds. You need to check with the hotel on what configurations they have if it really matters to you.

It will be a run of the house room which is the normal
procedure when a discount is in place.
