is the paris pass now the paris musuem pass. can you buy it in the u.s. for u.s. dollars and where.

The Museum Pass (Museum & Monuments Pass) can be purchased all over Paris. No need to pre-purchase (and if one did, the shipping/handling would be expensive)

The Paris Pass and the Paris Museum Pass are NOT the same. The Museum Pass is only for museums and monuments. The Paris Pass combines a Paris Visite transportation pass with a museum pass. Generally speaking, it is not a good value. The Paris Visite pass is overpriced and there are better transportation choices.

You used to be able to buy the Paris Museum Pass for AAA in the US, but I'm pretty sure they had a markup. No place is going to do that for free outside official Paris govt. sources in Paris. They are for-profit companies selling it outside France so they have an agenda, of course, and want something for their trouble. It's just basic common sense, anyone selling it other than official govt agencies in Paris are going to tack on some fee. I think AAA only had it as part of some package, though. YOu can find places on the internet to sell it outside France, but you pay more and then pay delivery fees on top of that. And I thikn that often doesn't really give you the pass but some voucher you have to use to go collect it somewhere in Paris, anyway, so it doesn't even save you any time.

We purchased the Paris Museum Pass and thought it was great value. It helps you skip the ticket lines which can be very lengthy. Just bear in mind you will still have to wait on the security line but your wait will be much shorter having to wait on only one line.

The museum pass is not just for museums--it includes the Arc de triomphe and Napoleon's tomb plus the Pantheon among many other sites.

I know the Musuem pass lists a lot of museums/sites that it is good for. Are there major museums that it does NOT include?

Museums which I have visited that are not included are the Musée Marmottan Monet and the Musée du Luxembourg.

No, there aren't any what I would call "major" museums that aren't included in the pass. And there are plenty of museums I wouldn't consider "major" that ARE included.

The whole purpose of the pass is to get people into the "major" museums.

either the Jeu de Pomme or its sister museum across the Tuileries gardens denied my Paris Museum Pass two years ago as they said they were not in the scheme. Most major museums it seems are state-run and those run by the City of Paris I believe are mainly free.

Sundays many museums are discounted or even free on the first Sunday of the month so you will not get as much bang for your euros with the pass on those days - and many seems to be closed on Mondays (Louvre Tuesdays)... I always by mine at a minor museum to await a long wait in line to buy the pass - last time I bought mine at the Conciergerie which at least the week after Christmas had no line at all - so head to a minor museum to avoid a lengthy wait in line.
