Paris help
Hi there, I'm travelling to Paris in a couple of weeks with my girlfriend (going to propose, i know it's probably obvious) Just wondered if theres anywhere especially romantic apart from taking her up the Eifel tower, which i heard about people doing so many times? I also need to sort out some insurance for the two of us, does anybody have any recommendations of who to try and a place i could take her
thanks in advance

Boat rides sound good, but I wouldn't propose on one unless you really are by yourself, more or less.
I don't think going up in the Eiffel Tower is very romantic myself, but everyone has their own taste. It's a tourist attraction, and hordes of tourists are there, and you line up and go up with them. Now I just don't think that is romantic, but I'm sure some people do. I think romance should be natural, not some artificial little gimmick or trick you've cooked up, although with asking someone else how you should do it. But lots of people go for gimmicks -- some walk across one of the bridges lit up at night in Paris would be more natural to me, and cost nothing.
You can get lots of insurance quotes and descriptions on www.insuremytrip.com, I'd suggest going there. There are several good companies -- both Travelex and AIG Travelguard are good ones.

A romantic moment may be had by taking the Metro to Trocadero at night, and then walking between the two buildings of the Palais Chaillot, and then suddenly the Eiffel tower is there in front of you, twinkling.
I'd think that other moments might be as you walk and hang out at such places as Place des Vosges, Luxembourg Gardens, one of the bridges over the Seine (perhaps the pedestrian Pont des Arts)m, walking along Seine below street level just east of Notre Dame....
I;ve seen a couple of other threads a while back on this topic..

How lovely!! My husband proposed to me on the Pont des Arts at night with the Eiffel Tower twinkling (although you can't see the whole tower) so that's a nice romantic place. How about the Sacre Coeur at night, overlooking the city? You could celebrate afterwards at the Café de la Paix, right opposite Opera Garnier. At night, this is a lovely place to eat.

I do like the Chaillot idea. I have been to Paris soooo many times and I never tire of looking at the Eiffel Tower at night. Just seeing it makes me so happy. One other thing I thought is you could buy one of those wine bottle/plastic champagne glass/picnic sets and have it all ready to go, no matter where you are! Maybe buy some cheese, crackers and champagne and have a little picnic under the gaze of the Tower?
Good luck too - let us know how it goes!!

I like the idea of going to Trocadero at night to see the Eiffel Tower, but would add that the Cafe L'Homme at the Trocadero has a fabulous terrace that looks straight on to the Tower. We sat there last summer for a friend's birthday celebrated and seeing the Tower that close, lit up at night, and then sparkling on the hour was magical! If I could pick a place to be proposed to in Paris, I think that would be my #1 choice. And, in addition, the food is wonderful!!!
Enjoy!

I did this in January, except it was our 15th anniversary and I decided to give my wife a new ring. I posted a similar question, and you can look at it here: http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...screen_name=tn. (I hope this link works, but if not just click on my screen name and go to post number 19 or 20.).
I gave her the ring at the Pont Alexander III bridge, which has a great view of the Eifel Tower and is a beautiful bridge. If you do this after dark, the tower "sparkles". It's a beautiful moment, it last for about 10 minutes (I think) and my wife still talks about it.
So, good luck. No matter where you do it, it will be a special moment.
Best.

I never knew the Ifel Tower was "the" place to propose, until last year I invited a client to visit me in Paris, instead of travelling to his office in the middle of nowhere in Czech. I paid to have him bring his girlfriend as well, and the week after I got the news that thanks to the trip, he finally got the corage to propose on the Ifel tower! I hope this counts towards Karma!

If it will be in the evening (after dark) try the Pont Neuf (despite the name it's the oldest bridge in Paris) - often used for fashion shoots etc - and very romantic.
I wouldn;t want to do it on a boat with a bunch of strangers around.

Another option - go to the Ile St. Louis, stand in line to get some ice cream at Berthillon, walk along the Seine with your ice cream...propose while walking along the river.
Luxembourg Gardens are also lovely....or find a seat on one of the benches in the Champs de Mars and do it just as the tower starts to sparkle at night.
You pretty much can't go wrong anywhere, wherever you propose will be "your spot" in Paris for the rest of your lives.
Congratulations in advance!
