Sue,
We stayed in La Coupole from PBL and it was great. We especially liked the area (non-touristy) and also there was a patisserie right across the street, plus a wine shop and fromagerie right on the street. There was an elevator in the building as well, but no A/C. Didn't need it. The owner of the apt was terrific (our credit cards had been cancelled by our bank who assumed fraud; so the owner gave us another day to get the funds, no problem). She just tore up our check after we left. Thierry is great to work with also. For one person it is really fine. Now I have to go to the gym to work out my frustration that you're going and I'm not Hope you have a great trip.

Thanks, all! Jobo, you don't have to get frustrated yet. It'll be quite awhile before I go. La Coupole does look nice. I usually stay in the Montparnasse area, which I like a lot, and had thought I'd like to be closer to the Seine this next trip. But I do like the non-touristy feel of Montparnasse.
And Seamus, I agree with you about using the bus. But sometimes they are awfully crowded, especially if you get on at certain times on mid-routes. I was there in May the last trip, and Paris was very busy.
But all those stairs on the Metro really did me in! That's why I don't want stairs at an apt..
