That apt isn't even listed on airbnb, very interesting. I don't think renting an apt in a place you've never been (and if you don't know French) is a good idea when you are just a tourist for a couple days. I don't even know why people would want to do that, it isolates you and can make things more difficult. And if I were, I wouldn't choose that location out of all the other choices. There isn't any need for an apt for a single person for just a couple day stay, either.
There are lots of choices other than that apt in the 16th (supposedly, it doesn't exist now) and MamaShelter. But if you don't mind being a little farther out, sounds like a good idea if you like it. Its rates are closer to 100 euro a night for just a single, I think, so I'm not clear on the goal any more, and the rates are higher if there are no singles available.

When I first went to Paris I was by myself. I like things easy, esp when travelling on my own. I chose the Latin Quarter too. A real plus was the ease of getting to the San Michel Metro stop, direct from the airport. Then I chose Hotel Les Argonautes, on 12 rue de la Huchette. Very close to the Metro. Lots of low-cost places to eat (Greek gyros!) and music. No frills but at least it has an elevator! http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/hote...rgonautes.html

The only drawback to staying out in the 16th is the tendency not to go out again when one is a little tired in the evening.
We stayed at a friend's apartment on rue de Ranelagh for three weeks once and after pounding on the streets and doing all the museums, lunching, shopping, et al, we opted not to go out of the neighborhood at night. But we're probably one of the few who are not enamored of metroing it late at night. Prefer the busses but most of the lines don't run late and the pheripherique lines do not run often.
I agree with Avalon about La Minerve on rue des Ecoles. It is clean and not too expensive.

Is the Renaisance Arc de Triomphe in the 16th?
I went to the hotel website and I couldn't determine.. It did say it was 2 blocks from the metro so I figured even if it a bit touristy, I could get anywhere.should I be concerned where I stay or just enjoy my luck at using Hotel reward points to cover my stay,

The Renaissance Arc de Triomphe is in the Eighth (like the Arc de Triomphe itself, which is at the top of the Champs-Élysées).
The Sixteenth is the district on the outer west side of the city. It was the second most expensive district of the city in which to live, last time I looked. It's mostly rather sleepy and residential, an area where the "good people" live.

I would certainly recommend the Latin Quarter, i was in Paris in April (my first time in Paris too) and stayed there and found almost everything walkable. I found a cosy appartment on Flikpkey.com, which cost me about 650Eur for 20 days!
Notre Dame, St Michel, St Chapelle, Conceirgerie are only a block away, plus it was pretty safe (& touristy which i did not mind- as after the 3-4th day the crowd gets used to you and vice versa)
Have a great trip!

We are much older than you in years but we stayed in the 16th and loved it because it was quiet which does not translate, in my opinion, to boring. The nearest metro stop (one block) was Place de Tracadero. We walked to the Eifel Tower. It was a great location. I am a runner and every morning I ran to the Bois and back.
I have been renting apts on line for over 10 years and I have NEVER had a problem.
Good luck and enjoy

Thank you so much to everyone's responses! This thread has certainley got me excited for the solo trip and calmed that bit of anxiousness I tend to get when doing something major like this. thank you all!
I decided to go with Mama Shelter. Reading up on the area, it reminds me a bit of my neighbourhood at home and something I'd love to explore in the evenings. I lucked out with a great rate and had breakfast thrown in, too.
Now off to read all your wonderful suggestions on things to do while in Paris (and Nice and Barcelona, too)! hehe.
Thanks again! counting down the days!
