I've just booked our room at the Parc des Marechaux and I've been told it's the red room on the website. It looks gorgeous!

There probably will be more things open on Sundays while you are there. We were there the last week in November, after the tourist season was over. Enjoy your stay.

HDM, congrats on the red room, it does look gorgeous. Thanks for the heads up on the AF fare sale, but we purchased our tickets with AA frequent flyer miles last May. It just took me a while to get around to booking lodging in Burgundy.

When will you be in Auxerre?

We'll check in on the 26th and out on the 28th, when we head for Coco's in Dijon.

We'll be in Paris for a week, the Auxerre, Dijon for 4 night, 5 days with a friend in Nice, then St. Remy for 4 days. Then back to Paris for one night before we fly home

Honestly, I'm having trouble believing I'm finally going to France! Booking lodging makes it real, doesn't it?

Sounds like a fabulous trip. We wanted to stay in Coco's flat for a couple of nights, but I waited too long and it wasn't available for our dates.

Hdm your room looks great! I'm glad you found a nice place between Paris and Dijon
Kay, I do hope for another time. It is such a pity you can postpone your trip for one month sharp, you would have stayed in Dijon right after hdm.
Where will you be staying in Beaune?

Kay -

Just saw this thread today. I think you will like the Hotel Le Parc des Marechaux. We've stayed there twice - both times in the chambre Murat - a quiet, charming, spacious corner room on the first floor. We loved it, and will likely stay there again when we return. Burgundy is one of our favorite regions.

Enjoy your stay in Auxerre. It's well located for day trips to Guédelon, Vézelay, Avallon, Chablis, Noyers, the Abbaye de Fontenay, etc, and of course, there is much of interest in Auxerre itself.

Auxerre is pronounced with a soft "x" like "ss." The pronunciation is regional.

Cotette, one of my favorite French writeres went to school in Auxerre but livd inthe nearby village of Puys St Sauvour(sp?)) there is a museum dedicated to her in the castle .
We stay at the Moulin des Ruat in Avallon, a place I mentioned where I had for the first time, like MDK Fisher the authentic trout bleu

oops it's colette and forgot to do the tiny url.
For new comers when the url is too long, go to www.tinyurl.com
put the long one in the box and it will give you back the tiny url.

Quick question -- do the rooms have hair dryers? I'm trying to limit what I bring.

I saw one on top of the toilets, in the picture of the blue/grey bathroom.

Thanks, Coco. We are staying at the Hostellerie de Bretonniere in Beaune. It looks like it will be an easy walk into town for restaurants and sights, but less expensive than staying in town and with free parking.
