When I was planning my trip to Venice a bit more than a year ago, another poster here RAVED about this relatively new hotel. It is right on the Grand Canal & has only been open for about 2 years. It opened as a 3 star because there was no resaurant but I think it may now be a 4 star with restaurant. It was more $ than I wanted to spend but we passed it while there & the location was fantastic IMO. I'll try to find the thread with the review. I'd definitely stay there.

If you type Sant Angelo AND venice in the text search you'll find a few useful posts, particularly # 15 or 16. Here's one old review

Message: The new luxury hotel is the Palazzo Sant' Angelo (www.sinahotels.it). It is currently offering a rate of 180Euros per room plus 10% tax. This includes breakfast. For an extra 65 Euros plus tax you can have a Grand Canal view.
It was really beyond our budget, so we used www.allvenicehotels.com to find a cheap room for our first night, and then splashed on the canal view room. It was well worth it. The rooms were very plush - carpeted (unusual in Venice), huge bed, fine linens, silk lined walls, huge bathroom in marble, twin basins, thick robes provided, turndown service. Couldn't fault it, and would love to go back again.
It is located right by the Sant' Angelo vaporetto stop, so is in San Marco but away from the crowds. I personally would not want to stay anywhere near St Mark's Square.
