Strongly recommend Hotel Galleria, located next to the Accademia Bridge on the Grande Canal. Wonderful neighbourhood, with the Accademia Museum next door and the Guggenheim Museum a Venetian block or so away. No balconies (I think) but you open six foot shutters and the Canal is there. Friendly staff, continental breakfast delivered to your room (which we preferred over attending the ubiquitous "breakfast room" in other hotels), quirky, charming rooms with sloping floors (just to prove that Venice really is sinking). Room #4 was E95 in early Oct, no ensuite but the pristine bathroom was always available. I'd opt for Room #5 which had an ensuite. But... maybe the Marconi is even better.

My friend from Paris was lucky enough to stay in 1 of the balcony rooms at the Marconi & adored it. The problem is I understand they won't guarantee a balcony & the rooms facing the back are not very nice I gather. There's another recent thread here on balcony rooms in Venice. Try typing venice AND balcony & see if you find it for options. There's been a particular room mentioned at the American (hotel)that sounds great. You can also try Americna hotel AND venice as a search.

Since you're not a frequent poster, I should explain when I say type I mean in the box above that says search this forum. It should read American Hotel AND venice (or try American Hotel AND balcony)

Hi Coloons,

Your only problem with the Marconi is that they hold the canal-view rooms for their regular customers (people whose grandparents stayed there when they were young), otherwise, it is a very nice place. (We have stayed there)

You might also consider the Hotel Rialto across the canal.

The Rialto Bridge neighborhood is a very interesting place to stay. Be sure to go to the Fish Market one morning. It's an experience.

I just booked a room at the Locanda ca' le Vele with a terrace and a canal view for 230 euro/night next October. Their website is www.locandalevele.com. If you click on my name and look for a thread with Venice and balcony, I listed a few that had balconies and canal views.
