Overnight train travel

My husband and I are ready to purchase our overnight train tickets. What does sleeper compartment T4 (W code) mean?
Thanks, Cindy

T4 is a four bunk compartment, probably first class. You will have two bunks up one side of the cabin and two on the other. The other two bunks may have occupants.

I see on another post that you are leaving Barcelona your last day arriving Paris at 22h and departing CDG at 11h the next morning. There is a TrainHotel departing Barcelona 21h arriving Paris Austerlitz 09h. If you could catch a later flight you could take the TrainHotel, a wonderful way to travel. I don't know if I would give myself a 2 hour connection from Austerlitz to CDG, but then again a fast taxi would probably do it.

Before you purchased an expensive sleeper ticket and get only a marginable nights sleep, why not check out Iberia to see if there's a cheap airfare.

Two years ago we flew at 7PM (1 hour flight) from Granada to Barcelona for 55Euros for both of us.

One hour over or one day over and the fare is a couple of hundred Euros each. Check each hour.

I was really amazed at how quiet it is for sleeping on the Todo Preferente Hotel Tren Barcelona-Sevilla. There was no marginality to our experience on that trip: no clickety-clack and no noticeable vibration. We had a 2-bed Compartment: slept like logs. An enjoyable railtrip: Dep. Barcelona Sants @ 22:30;
arr. Sevilla Santa Justa @ 08:20.

Our only possible complaint was that we were about 5-Carriages away from the Cafe Car (where we went for Coffee about the time the Train stopped in Cordoba).

If you haven't tried it, don't knock it!

I am apparently one of the few people who post here who actually gets to sleep on those Trenhotels including the Barcelona-Paris and Paris-Madrid route as well as the Barcelona-Milano route.

But I've always been in Gran Classe compartments.

IF you have any doubts whatsoever then i would check out the possibility of flying Barcelona-paris on EasyJet or from nearby Girona to Paris on Ryanair.

Travelled on the TrenHotel from Barcelona to Milan, and it was wonderful. The Grand Class rate included dinner and breakfast, both excellent. Our room (suite?) included a shower. It was not cheap, but was reasonable considering that it included a room overnight, two meals, and first class transportation.
I think everyone should try to work TrenHotel into their itinerary, on one of their European trips.

We will be in Sienna and need to travel to a cottage about an hur and a half north of Paris. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on train, overnight or just airplane.
Thank you so much.

Hi J,

I think you will get more responses if you start your own thread for Siena to Paris.

You'll have to take the bus to Florence or Rome first.
