I think I've almost worn out my favorite A.H. film, "Love in the Afternoon." Paris, the Ritz, Cooper, sigh, the magic of it all!

Two more for the list: "Topsy Turvy" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral."

Bhowani Junction (1956)
Starring: Ava Gardner, Stewart Granger
Though it might be too violent for the children, so save it for over night trips, and substitute:

Anna and the King of Siam

Mary Poppins

To Kill a Mocking Bird

daka and traviata:

I LOVE, LOVE Cinema Paradiso. I think I've watched it a dozen times. And you're right...you've got to watch the director's cut. I've shown the shorter version to my 12th graders who've fallen in love with it.

Have you seen A Very Long Engagement?

It's a beautiful film in a different way. My suggestion: read the book first (it's by Sebastien Japrisot -- forgive my spelling) and then watch the film. I normally hate movies after I've read the book, but this one didn't disappoint me. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm definitely in the camp of "loved it once, will love it 100 more times." Here is my list of repeat performances, for a long plane ride or an evening at home ...

The Thomas Crown Affair (although the original with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunnaway was wonderful, the remake with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo was even better - fast paced, stylish and totally engrossing til the end)

Anything with Audrey Hepburn - Roman Holiday, Two For The Road, Sabrina, Charade, My Fair Lady, etc.

Four Weddings and a Funeral

Mostly Martha (fall in love with the music, too)

Love Actually (I hate to admit this but it definitely grew on me)

Witness (an "oldie" with Harrison Ford in the Amish country)

Cinema Paradiso (for the plane ride to Italy)

Gigi (ditto for France)

When Harry Met Sally

Pretty Woman

A Man and A Woman (I can hum the music now)

Network (can we ever forget that classic line?)

An Officer and a Gentleman

there are very few movies I have watched more than once, but the ones I have enjoyed over and over:

Gone with the Wind
Lord of the Rings trilogy
Dances with Wolves
Young Frankenstein
Three Days of the Condor
Pretty Woman
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
It Happened One Night
and throw in some Charlie Chaplin and Marx Brother too!

So many of my favourites have been listed, Before Sunset, 84 Charing Cross Road, Young Frankenstein.

Broadway's Lost Treasures
Les Triplettes de Belleville
The Making of The Producers

- keep me amused on long flights. I find it difficult to focus through heavy dramas, so with these I can pick and choose different cuts.

Il postino is one of the best films to come out of Italy in recent times.

Sad to know the star died shortly after making that film. Everytime I read Neruda, I think of him.

Scarlett, It was good. The scenery especially. All the books he wrote were amusing.

The book is also good. Unfortunately we missed the telecast, as our PBS station keeps moving everything around for the eternal fund drives.

Oh my, how could I have forgotten about Blazing Saddles. A group of us still get together and watch it - we know every word, every line.

I didn't think I could watch either, but I did watch Steve Martin's Cheaper By The Dozen and Meet the Fockers NUMEROUS times on recent flights. I hate it when you're held captive by these types of movies!

How did you all get so many good films?
