If anyone really REALLY cares, I'll list the films I always enjoy re-watching, just to see how cleverly they're done:
The Women (1939)
The Lady Eve/ The Palm Beach Story (Preston Sturges' masterpieces of the early 40s)
All About Eve (1950)

To me, the title of a book is very important...and I have always loved the title of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn...but I never read the book. Would you recommend it and why? Is it very moving and emotionally deep? I can add that to the hundred or so other books I have yet to get around to reading....

Lord of the Rings trilogy, in order, would be my preference over repetitive viewing.
Actually, PBS version of Forsythe Saga would get me through a long flight, but the hubby would very strongly prefer Band of Brothers.

Guy, you will love Two for the Road, one of my all time favorite movies!
Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney never looked so good and neither did France LOL
And it is fun to see those fashions again..

Hi ilovetotravel, I don't know your taste in books but I would strongly encourage you to check out "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" by Betty Smith from your local library.
It takes place after the turn of the century (the early 1900's) in Brooklyn. It is about a young girl growing into womanhood. It is considered a classic. I "think" you would enjoy it.
Travgina, you too?? I imagine from your post that we both as teens got a lot out of "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn". I read it while staying at my aunt and uncles in Oakland, CA. It was winter time, I had a terrible cold, my aunt put me to bed and brought the book home for me to read. I can to this day remember being snuggled under the warm blankets enthralled with this book.
ilovetotravel, there are a few books I have reread and of course a few movies I have rewatched (Three Coins In the Fountain and The King and I being a couple) but because there are so many books I want to read, so many movies I want to watch I tend to not want to spend my time rereading and rewatching the same books and movies. But I sure understand those who do love to, it is sort of a like a comfort blanket I think.

Not a movie, but American Airlines was playing an old eposide of "I Love Lucy." I wish more airlines would play those on their flights. Funny, relaxing, and doesn't take much thinking, on my part.

Guy18 and Scarlett: nice to know there are Audrey Hepburn fans out there still...she remains to me the epitome of intelligent elegance and I see I amnot alone as Charade was also added to the list.
This is a great thread: I had forgotten all about "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" but am going to re-read/see it.

I LOVE Two for the Road! That is a very underappreciated film. Audrey's clothes in it are fantastic...even if they aren't Givenchy. ;-)
I could totally go for an Audrey Hepburn inflight film festival anytime! I'm having my own at-home film festival of her films set in Paris or France in preparation for my upcoming trip.

I love to watch old movies - don't have to be on a plane to enjoy them. Here's a list of my favorites (in no particular order) all of which I've seen at numerous and that I can watch again and again:
Moonstruck
Godfather 1
Godfather 2
Casablanca
The Maltese Falcon
Patton
Starman
The Right Stuff
Apollo 13
The Hunt for Red October
Goodfellas
Rudy
Hoosiers
Remember the Titans
Forest Gump
The Graduate
Jaws (the original)
A Walk in the Sun
To Kill a Mockingbird
12 Angry Men
From Here To Eternity
The Caine Mutiny
12 O'Clock High
Crimson Tide
Day of the Jackel
Meatballs (hilariously funny)
I also agree with one of the other posters that Band of Brothers would be an excellent choice for a long plane ride. It's a top notch production which I've watch when it was originally on HBO and 3 times since.
