Loveitaly-- I am sorry if you misunderstood, I was trying to explain that some people like to watch and rewatch favorite movies for a specific reason---but they also like learning about new movies and books as well.
I did not imply that you need to do anything, just trying to help you to understand why some people even have favorite movies and books that they watch and rewatch. I was just trying to help you to understand the reasons behind it. Of course, we are all different and everyone's preference is totally ok.

Gosh, I have so many favorites that I've watched so often I know all the lines by heart.
Travel themed I'd pick: Under the Tuscan Sun, Funny Face, French Kiss.
But for pure fun, the three original Star Wars films: technically known as episodes 4, 5, 6, no prequels and no special editions with the extra special effects, thankyouverymuch.
For a REALLY long flight, one could watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy. ;-)

I am so completely trapped in repetitive movie watching that it borders on some disorder. The list is long but would include (a number of these already mentioned) -
<i>The Hunt for Red October</i> - just to hear Sean's <i>terrible</i> Russian;
<i>LOTR</i> trilogy;
White House trilogy - <i>American President, Dave, All the President's Men;</i>
Do <i>NOT</i> understand this in myself, but <i>Notting Hill</i> and <i>Love, Actually</i> - totally baffles me;
<i>Young Frankenstein;</i>
<i>The Great Escape;</i>
<i>Local Hero;</i>
Lean-two: <i>Doctor Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia;</i>
<i>Forbidden Planet;</i>
<i>Casablanca;</i>
Any and all <i>Thin Man</i> episodes;
Any and all Marx Bros. films;
And more...
In a four-flight itinerary last spring I watched (actually, paid attention) to <i>National Treasure</i> FOUR TIMES. Idiotic film, and there I am staring at it.
Can't sleep on planes; tend to use up books too fast and end up in places where you can't buy them cheaply in English, so I save them for jetlag nights in hotels rather than planes.

I'm another of those who has no interest in seeing a movie or reading a book more than once. There are so many movies/books I haven't watched/read on my 'to do' list that I don't have time for repeats. Besides, life is short, as is evidenced by the fact that time goes by faster the older you get - lol!
Loveitaly, I too read "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" as a young teen, and it was that book that instilled my love of reading. Books have taken me on so many amazing journeys, and I'm glad that my daughter, son and grandkids have also developed a love of books.
Back to the topic - I'd rather sleep on the plane (if only I could!)
