I know there are no definitive answers, weather is extremely variable, etc., but I was wondering what folks' experiences have been in Normandy in mid/late May. Great probability of cold and gray would deter me!

Sue,<BR><BR>We were in Normandy from May 21 to May 26. The main reason for our visit was to visit Omaha Beach and see the Bayeux Tapestry. We were surprised to have sunny days and temperatures in the 70's and 80's. I am told, however, weather is often overcast and wet in May. <BR><BR>If weather is your most important consideration you might consider the Med or Italy.<BR><BR>Good luck.

Actually, going to Normandy w/in a time frame that is doable for a family group next spring is what I have in mind and don't want to go there if there's great chance of bad weather. I often do off season in Paris, London, but renting a house in countryside could be dismal if weather were bleak. I want to avoid crowds of summer and probably can't have it both ways! Perhaps September. Sounds as tho you had great weather!

we were on the normandy coast may 27-30, took coats, umbrellas and walking shoes and were unaffected by the weather. it did rain, it was windy --- but we visited the beaches, mont st. michel, ste. mere eglise, and stayed in a wonderful B&B overlooking the sea and the village at arromanches.<BR><BR>we had a rental car and were able to drive to whatever, whenever.<BR><BR>don't be deterred by the weather --- just go with the flow and you'll have a great time.<BR><BR>sw

The key to Normandy in the spring is to expect cold and wind, so that when it's calm and sunny you'll feel very fortunate. Which is exactly what you'll be. <BR><BR>It's not bitter cold by any means, but the wind and wet make it feel pretty chilly. Embrace the weather, don't fight it, and you'll love Normandy. Do take sweaters to layer, as well as a top layer. The last time I visited (in early June a few years ago) I was sorry I hadn't packed gloves!<BR>
