<i>"There is nothing more disgusting that to see someone smearing Chapstik on their face when you are trying to have sex with them! It's almost as bad as when they insist on taking the cellphone call that they've apparently been waiting for their entire life!"</i>

Wow. What a great and funny bunch of responses. I am relieved to know I can carry my chaptstick on with me. Incidentally, I have been writing this board with questions for years, and often they are lost somehow or elicit few responses. I am pleased to know I have finally come up with a topic of interest to so many. Thanks all, PJK

In all seriousness, as much as I love traveling, the actual getting there can be long, uncomfortable and sometimes stresful. Therefore, I think that we all strive to have our little comforts to make the journey easier. For some it's being able to sleep, Ipod, movies, snacks, and yes, hand lotion and/or lipgloss/chapstick. As silly as it may sound, those little details can be a long flight much more comfortable.
If I'm flying for only one hour, my needs are very different, but when I'm flying for 15 + hours, yes, I want comfort. I'm sure if I were flying in first class, my needs would be different since I would have more room to strecth out and not having a lipgloss woudln't be as much of an inconvenience.

Nobody is questioning that. Nobody is questioning PJK's assertion about being miserable on a nine-hour flight without chapstick, either.
I suspect PJK has had to give up other things for longer than nine hours and actually survived. Too bad those things can't be discussed here.

Lucygirl--YES ! Bonne Bell--I've used it/loved it for years. But somwhere along the line I dumped 'cotton candy' in favor of 'Dr. Pepper !' To me, it's the perfect combination of flavor and moisturizing properties. [ I sound a bit like Ralphie in 'A Christmas Story,' assessing the relative merits of the various soaps he's been forced to use for washing out his mouth ] Anyway, I must have about 10 tubes of the Dr. P. stuff squirreled away, always afraid it's going to be discontinued (and it probably SHOULD be !)
Yes, this has been a fun and occasionally informative thread. Paris in 10 days !!

Can you imagine what it would be like if we chapstick addicts were all on the same plane! Perhaps we could work out a musical routine--applying in unison or at staggered intervals. Something like synchronized swimming???
This "smiley" could use a little "lip balm."
