Need hotel suggestions in Pisa

We are arriving Pisa Airport on Oct. 5th at 3:30pm from California. We will be driving to Santa Marguerita Liguria the following day. We used FF miles that's why arriving Pisa.
My initial thought was to drive half hour to Viareggio and spend night. Now I am rethinking in case flight is delayed. Don't want my husband to have to drive after such a long flight.
Can someone recommend a NICE hotel in Pisa? I have researched, read reviews on Fodors and TripAdvisor but cannot decide. We like upscale hotels but I am stumped in Pisa.
Thank you for any help.

You could easily take a bus or car transfer or people mover from airport via Pisa Centrale for trains tonearby Viareggio - much nicer IMO than staying in Pisa for recuperating. Pick up car and hit Leaning Tower on way out of Viareggio.

My friends always stay in Viareggio and love it.

sorry not answering your question but presenting an alternative- be sad to miss staying in Viareggio!

Thank you PalenQ. I guess I will stick with original plan to drive to Viareggio. It looks like a fairly simple route.

Take a pick.May not be upscale ( $100=150 range) but most with the view of the Leaning tower, the Baptistery and Cathedral.

Several years ago we stayed at the Hotel Bologna and they provide free shuttle transit from the airport to the hotel. You must, however, book through their website only to receive this service. The hotel is very close to the Arno, the Leaning Tower is about a 15 minute walk, and the hotel is very nice.

Buon viaggio,
