i did check into the alpenrose. only thing confusing is that prices quoted....are they per person? cuz we were looking at the chalet erika.

Most apts for rent also show about 80-90 chf for apts. i am assuming that it is for the whole apt and not per person/per night otherwise the hostels become cheaper.. please shed some more light on this.

indian couple will respond to the email.

thanks to all of you fodorites...i am inching closer and closer to making my final itinerary.

You might tray a new post with a specific title like "Apartments in Lauterbrunnen?"

I have seen a number of them discussed here, but the people who have stayed there may not know to respond to this thread.

Nuts/vegetarian--white bread (comes in yellow wrapping paper) and rustic bread (comes in reddish brown paper) at Migros/Co-Op are nut free. They are made of plain flour (white or wholemeal), salt, yeast and water.

borivlikar1~ When you start a post here on Fodor's, please realize that lots of other people may also be seeking similar information to yours. You don't get to "close" it, if people still want to make suggestions or additions.

suze

my understanding was that " envelope please" meant that people were tired of my q's and hence the thread needed to end. i dont have any q;s for now but as i go along, q's might crop up.

right now all of you have done such a splendid job in terms of helping me out that i cannot thank all of you enough.

By "envelope please" I'm sure they just meant they were curious to hear what you decided (reference from the academy awards?).

But there are no rules on Fodor's that say you musdt tell us your final decision!

all the best, suze

"opening the envelope"

Wwe have finally decided to arrive in zrh...move by train to lauterbrunnen.our base will be at lauterbrunnen. we intend doing 2/3 short cruises on local lakes. primarily jungfrau, schilthonr will be covered. but most importantly we want to do some scenic train rides...possibly 2 of the panoramic trains.

Pass wise we are going for the first class swiss family pass which will be bought from budget europe travel in the us.

Food modalities still being worked out...but currently made a list of the sentences provided by fodorites so that the allergies can be explained.

Thanks,
Borivlikar

I think the choice of a first-class pass makes sense for a family who wants always - yes always to have empty seats to spread out on as you will have in first class. Second class is usually fine but can become crowded during rush hours as many commuters may use them or in the mountains with hiking or ski groups who mob aboard with the equipments, etc.

And if you take the lake boats like at Interlaken, covered in full by the pass, only first-class ticket holders are allowed on the open-air upper deck, which i always love because of the much better views.
