Looking for nice and not too expensive hotels for 2 nights in October on Naxos.

Any Help?

We stayed at the Hotel Grotta on Naxos and liked it. It's not on the beach though, not sure if that's what you are after. It's up on a headland with some lovely views and the family who own and run it were really nice. It's about a 10 min walk to the centre of town. It was very clean, fairly basic and not expensive.

KayF,
Thank you, the website looks very nice. They didn't have rates on the site, approximately how much was it? I realize rates change but this will give me an idea. I will be on Naxos Oct 1 and 2nd. Thanks, Pat

If you're travelling in October, you'll be able to go to almost any hotel in the Greek islands and find a room. It's well outside the main tourist season. In my experience, not only are hotel rooms plentiful in October, but they'll all charge less than their official rates.

We also stayed at the Grotta. It was quite pleasant.

Hi Areala:

I believe I just responded to your other thread as well - but will reiterate here that we loved Hotel Galini & Sofia! Lovely little place, clean, great location, and wonderful hosts - - - and excellent value (50 euro/nt in July!) Highly recommended.

Hi Areala,

we have also stayed at the Grotta 4 years ago, and I agree with Kay.

It´s a fairly basic place, not expensive at all, and the family who runs it are quite nice. And for a compulsive reader as myself, who had finished the books she had brought ... the left-books library at the breakfast-cum-lounge room was bliss

Friends of mine went to Greece last summer, and they selected the Grotta after our recommendation (and against their TA advice, because it was the cheapest of all the Naxos hotels being offered), and they liked it a lot.

And btw, we liked Naxos very, very much.

Rgds, Cova

I don´t know what the prices would be right now, but our triple room was very cheap, and October is certainly low season in Greece

Hi Pat,
Sorry but I don't know what we paid but it would have been reasonable as we don't usually stay anywhere expensive. If you are interested, send them a quick email with your dates to ask how much. We didn't know until we'd walked to the hotel from the ferry, but they will pick you up at the dock in their little van if they know what time ferry you are on. Saves a trek with your luggage.

Thanks for all the posts. I believe I am going to try the Hotel Grotta and the good advice about letting them know what ferry I am arriving on. I really don't like lugging my luggage around even though I only take one bag. For long hikes even one bag seems a bit much at times.

All the posts here on Fodor's seems to indicate Naxos is a great place to visit and I am now so looking forward to my trip to Greece I just can't wait...ahhh...but wait I must.

Watch for the trip report as I am sure it's going to be fantastic.
