Naples, Italy

My friend and I just returned from a harrowing trip to Naples. We were attacked two times by teenagers. The first time just knocked down and sprayed with shaving cream (I hope, it stung in my eyes). The second time teenagers asked if we were Americans (at Pompei) and then threw some rocks at us. The third time was a full-on mugging. One man grabbed my friends purse with her attached and dragged her up a dark alley. No one would come help us. In the 20 minutes it took us to run to the hotel and cancel the credit card they put over $1000 dollars on it.

Here's the really scary part. We met a lady from London who was robbed at the same place the night before. They drove by a motor bike, grabbed the purse and dragged her until her purse strap broke.

This all occurred very close to the HOTEL PLAZA where we both happened to be staying. I highly recommend staying somewhere else in Naples.

I can see this happening in Naples, being such a randy city, but in Pompeii where there are tourists from all over the world! Some Pompeii authorities should be notified of this, did you report it? Maybe they need more security there.

The hotel was within 150 yds of where we (and the couple from London) got mugged. Most of the 20 minutes was trying to get the number to call the credit card company.

If i ever stayed in Naples again I would stay in a much nicer district, it would have been worth it.

It's always a big mistake to carry a visible money bag/purse, shoulder bag, expensive camera, jewelry ... in Naples, Rome or anywhere else. Unfortunately it happens every day to unsuspecting tourists.

I'm sorry you had such an awful experience.

Where is the Hotel Plaza located? Where were you mugged?

Although I understand this could happen in any city, anywhere, where exactly is the Hotel Plaza located? What district are you talking about?
