ZACH NEEDS HELP IN SIENA

Zach and Trevor are in desparate need of advice on where to stay cheaply in Siena during the Palio, July 1 and 2. We can't seem to find anything. Can anyone help?
Thank you
Gail, (Zach's Mom)

Try just outside the walls of Siena which might be cheaper than inside or in another closeby town with transportation. That's the highest of the high summer season in Siena so deals are going to be hard to comeby.

when we were in a similar dilemna (though not on a limited budget) someone here recommended the Best Western outside the walls. It was less than 2 kms away (though probably incurring significant walks uphill). not sure price.

go to bestwestern.com and see.

Thank you soooo much. I booked the Best Western and they had space. At least the boys have a place to go for sure and we can continue to look. The rate is about $50/boy, but at least is a room. More then we wanted, but much less then we found elsewhere.
Regards
Gail

You may want to check to see if the Tre Donzelle has space http://www.guestinitaly.com/hotels/siena/01.htm . It is right near the main Piazza where the Palio is held. Staying at either the Exacutive or the Priori (the names of the Best Western hotels here) is a big mistake IMO. The city is crazy during the days of the Palio, getting into the city is hard as there is a lot of traffic, buses are ful etc. etc.

If you would like to read my story on the Palio (gives and explination) check out http://www.slowtrav.com and search for palio cristina.

If you need more Siena help, please let me know (through the message board at SlowTrav if I do not respond here right away)

Cristina

I should probably clarify that I didn't actually stay there but someone had recommended that it was nice and clean, not to expensive and usually not fully occupied.
