We're going to be renting a car in Naples to drive to the Amalfi coast, after staying overnight in Naples.

Which do you recommend: picking the car up at the train station, or at the airport?

Ira, We don't want to drive IN Naples, just FROM Naples.

Does that mean that it would be a bad idea to get the car at the train station?

Right now we actually have a car reserved for pickup at the airport, but I was wondering if it was gong to be a lot more hassle and expense to go all the way out to the airport to pick it up.

If you pick up a car near the train station, you will have to drive in Naples.

Have you looked at www.mappy.com for suggested routes? You will start from around the Piazza Garibaldi.

I just did that and they suggest you take the ferry.

This time I tried going from Naples to Praiano instead of Sorrento.

It might be doable without a great deal of hassle. The entrance to the autostrada appears to be less than a mile from P. Garibaldi.

Marcy - Be aware that if you rent from the airport you will normally pay a 15-20% surcharge.

Have you thought of hiring from Sorrento instead to avoid driving in Naples?
