Munich - Hotel near airport?
Can anyone recommend a hotel that is not too far from the airport because I will only be staying a short time. Sounds like it will take some time to get to the city center from the airport and I am arriving pretty late at night.

You might want to check accommodations in some of the towns near the airport. We recently stayed in Freising, which is a little north of the airport. It was eighteen Euros for a cab from our hotel to the airport. There is also city bus and train (S-bahn), but we had a large piece of luggage (a bicycle) and it was just easier to pay for a cab to get to the airport than to struggle with all our stuff on city transit.
We stayed at the Gruener Hof - small but adequate guest rooms, very clean. Ours had a private bath, but some of the single rooms have a bath down the hall - and are pretty inexpensive.
It was about 25 minutes to Munich Hbf from Freising on the Regional Express train, about 35 on the S-Bahn. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel to catch a city bus to the bahnhof, or a short walk (ten minutes?) to the station.
HTH.

We also stayed in Freising at the Hotel zur Gred:

It is an old fashion Gasthaus whose atmosphere we enjoyed.
Freising itself is a very attractive small Bavarian town, though is sounds as though you will not be there long.

The Kempinski is right IN the airport so you can walk there from the terminals, if money is not a major issue.
Otherwise, the hotels at Freising are a good option. Freising itself is a nice little town with a couple of sights, incl. the cathedral.
There is also a bunch of hotels that advertise themselves as being "close to the airport" -- which they are, but in some smaller villages near the airport. These I would not recommend as you are stuck in the middle of nowhere, often with poor connections to Munich.
The train ride from the airport to downtown Munich takes 40-45 minutes.
An "in between" option would be a hotel en route to Munich like the Park Inn Munich East. 20minutes by S8 train from the airport a few yards from the train station Johanniskirchen, and already within the city limits of Munich, 15-20 min by train to the city center. Yet, that location offers not much more than the hotel itself and the fast connections by train.

Hi,
Just another option...Last year we stayed in Erding at the Park Hotel (Best Western). It's about 15 min. from the airport and the hotel is just 2 blocks from the train station and a 5 minute walk the pedestrian zone in the very nice old town of Erding.

We stayed at the Marriot in Feising two weeks ago for 149E for a double - nice room and took a taxi in the morning to the airport for about 20E. We've also stayed at the Kempinski and it was fine. EIther way it's a lt closer than staying in Munich and trying to catch an early flight in the morning! Have fun!

If you're receptive to using Priceline, here's some info. According to www.biddingfortravel.com, the only hotel that PL uses at the Munich airport is the
Munich Airport Marriott
Alois Steinecker Strasse 20
Freising, 85354 Germany
So if you're interested, go to the BFT website and study until you know how to bid on PL. Someone got the Marriott for 110 USD in mid-November.
