moderate hotel in zermatt?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a moderately priced hotel (probably about two-three stars)hotel in Zermatt? We want a view of the Matterhorn from the room. Other than that, no particular criteria except that we would prefer not to have to deal with more than one flight of stairs.

You might want to consider the Butterfly which has balconies, views, and, as I recall, en elevator;. It is rated 3* and the staff, particularly the (owner?)/manager, are wonderfully helpful and friendly.

Hello prizren,

I did post a response to your question yesterday. Since you posted another question, it may be that you were unable to read it. I will "top" it for you so that you do not have to post the same question multiple times. Also, if you want to search this board for Zermatt tips, simply do a text search for Zermatt and you will find a number of previous postings that may help! Good luck!

Thanks for the information and help, Steffen. Thanks to you,I have found the Allalin online, and it looks like an excellent possibility. Now I have to discuss it with my travel-mates.

For you, I absolutely recommend Hotel Primavera near Sunnegga. In the summer of 2002, we had a room there, simple but clean (no TV if I remeber well) but best of all it had a balcony with a table & chairs facing Matterhorn. After a day of hiking, we sat there in the sun with a pitcher of rose(e with accent)wine that we bought at the hotel's bar. (The room did not have Mini-bar). We had reserved this room with Matterhorn view specifically (was stated clearly on their e-mail booking form) for CHF 150.00 for the double room including a descent buffet breakfast.

The room's window was large. We left the curtain open and enjoyed the early morning view of Matterhorn in bed.

Also this was a quiet area, a bit out of center but still within 10 minutes walk from the railway station.

I don't remember for sure but without TV and mini-bar in the room, the hotel could be 2-star.

And it had a (rather small) elevator.

I am staying at the Allalin, but I don't return until June 13. I'll report back if it's any help at that point. it sounds marvelous though.

The Allalin was fabulous! I got room 56, which is the room you want if you want a perfect view of the Matterhorn. spacious room, skylight in the bathroom, nice sized balcony, carved wood paneling, even a sofa in the room. very friendly hosts. definitely stay there if you can, I am definitely staying there on my next trip!

Hello again!

I forgot to mention that Zermatt has a tremendous Web site that will help you greatly in your search for accommodations.

One thing you should know is that hotels in Zermatt are divided into two types: Hotel Garni (which means bed and breakfast) and Hotels (which COULD include dinner as well in their posted rates). The Web site will show you locations, ratings, links to the Hotel themselves, and an online booking service as well!

The Zermatt page is truly a well designed page very useful for anyone visiting this magical place.

Here is the link to the Zermatt page:

http://www.zermatt.ch/index.e.html

Happy travels!
