Miramare Room 209?

Planning our honeymoon...After much research on the site (thank you everyone!) We have decided to book the Miramare in Positano. All the rave about room 210, except it is not available for our September dates. However, room 209 is...has anyone ever stayed here or can someone vouch for the cosistency of the other rooms? THANKS!

We're in the same situation - honeymoon (april), Positano, Miramare but no 210 availability. We're going to stay in 209 - from what the mgr emailed me, 209 has a bath/shower with a glass wall that overlooks the sea, and a small terrace with tables and chairs. Based on that and the reviews on this site, that was good enough for us. We're going in April so I'll give you a report when we come back!

I stayed in Room 210 last October and we have a wonderful time at the Miramare. I did see a number of the other rooms, including Room 209, but as I recall that room had only a sliver of a terrace (we're talking 1.5' deep) and no furniture on it. It may be worth talking to Rosita or Niccola at the front desk to confirm this, as they would obviously know. Also note that Room 209 opens directly into Miramare's lobby. Although there are double doors (i.e., two consecutive doors) to insulate the noise, this might also factor into your decisions. FYI: this is the room whose bathroom is displayed on the Miramare's website: www.starnet.it/miramare under "prices."

The other room you may want to consider is Room 201, which is directly below Room 210 and thus whose views are basically the same. (For an idea of the view, look at Miramare's website under "View." That really is the view from 210's terrace!) The terrace is large and second in size only to 210's. Given a choice between a wall of glass in the bathroom and a sizeable terrace, I'd opt for the latter in a heartbeat. Our terrace was far and away the best part of our experience in Positano.

Hi CoffeeAdict,
Thanks for your detailed info. It certainly has given me something to think about.
I booked with the Miramare about 4 months ago after reading from this site but could not secure room 210, even that early! Whilst I do realise that the accom is certainly not the biggest part of travelling, I must admit it does matter to me (especially when waking to the gorgeous view I am anticipating).

When I originally booked, and also since querying this room, I emailed and Nicola assured me that room 209 is the '2nd best room for a honeymoon couple'.
When you checked out room 209 do you remember if it seemed a reasonable size and was there a good view from the room or did you have to go out onto the balcony for the view? Was the room was spacious light, bright and open with unobstructed views as this is what I am hoping for? Also, am I correct in assuming that the view from 209 looks straight out at the water as opposed to the view of the coastline as in the 'view picture' from 210 on their website?)
Sorry for such detailed questions but hoping you can help...
thanks,

ps. I can also secure a sea view room at Hotel Onda Verde who seem to have a great website (and are very helpful when emailing.)

Anyone have any experience with this hotel & their rooms ?
thanks...

The Miramare doesn't have a room with a bad view, so you really can't go wrong. (The "view" from the Miramare's website is only about a 1/4 of the full view from 210's terrace, since from the terrace you have about a 270 degree unobstructed view of the coast and the water.)

The trade off I was referring to was between a bathroom with a view vs. a bigger terrace with a view. I'm pretty certain that the balcony in Room 209 was only a sliver and I don't remember seeing any furniture. In contrast, Room 201's terrace is semi-private and substantially larger than the other rooms. Room 209's terrace is smaller than even the regular rooms.

Room 209 was a reasonable size. You'll be paying for the bathroom, which we didn't spend that much time in. The terrace, however, that was Positano for us.

However, I'd trust Niccola's word as golden. I never actually saw room 201, just the terrace, since it was right below 210's. If it's that important to you, I'd call up Niccola or Rosita and ask if they can fax to you a floorplan of various rooms and see what suits your fancy. Good luck.

We stayed at the Miramare about five years ago in a just okay room (sorry, can't remember the number) but our terrace was FABULOUS. For us the huge terrace and the spectacular view was what made the stay so special. We had a table and chairs (where our breakfast was brought every morning) and some lounge chairs. As others have said, you have to decide what is most important for you but for us that spectacular terrace was great. Positano is wonderful. Have a great time.

Just returned from Miramare 209 2 weeks ago. Coffee addict's comments are right on. 209 is great for the bathroom, not so great for the terrace. We looked in several rooms - all are bright, open and have great views. We looked in 210, 211, 212, 213,214, 203 and 207. Some are suites, some are single room, some have interior baths (no view) but I can't recall which had which. But all were nice rooms with balconies of substantial size - 10x10 perhaps. 210 looked bigger. If we had to do it over again, we'd opt for one of the above rooms based solely on the terrace - we couldn't spend enough time out there! Check my other post(s) for a more detailed report on the Miramare and later today, Positano/Amalfi coast as a whole.
