Any feedback for this hotel? Price is good and TA reviews are decent. Not too sure about the location on Gloucester Road. Is it within a reasonable walk (for healthy folk who like to walk) from central London sites such as Westminister?

Not really. London is a big city and major sights are very spread out. You will be doing a lot of walking from one sight to another - so I would hop the tube from the hotel to the sights you want to see. (Several museums nearby are easily walkable.)

We've stayed there about 12 or 14 times and love the location. It is directly across the road from the tube, there are buses right outside the door to King's Rd Chelsea area and Kensington High Street. On Cromwell Rd there are buses direct to Trafalgar and Piccadilly and beyond .If breakfast isn't included, there is a PAul across the street, a small cafe next to it for a ful English, Not the Illy's !!There is an internet cafe across the street with MUCH lower rates than the hotel charges. A laundromat is a few blocks away and a Boots and Waitrose and a Tesco just across the street. I find the location ideal. Maybe we just have gotten lucky but we are often upgraded to a club room, or maybe it's because we've been there so ofteen.

I stayed there on a priceline win.

I liked it and I like the location. It's very close to the Tube which can take you anyplace!

BTW , you can walk to Harrod's , The V&A, Natural History Museum, Cheyne Walk, Kensington Gardens and Palace and many other places easily. A really great nearby pub, The Anglesea Arms, even CW likes it!

It is a fine hotel in an <u>excellent</u> location. Walkable to lots of things including everything mentioned above plus Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall.

For everything else -- it is right on the Piccadilly line so you can get anywhere easily by tube -- including LHR w/o changes.

Thanks all, especially avalon and janisj. I booked it at an excellent rate in dollars that includes all taxes and fees, particularly since it is a weekend stay. That fills out all the blank lodging spots for the trip, so again, thanks to all on this thread and the other threads that I started for this trip. Janisj, your suggestions have been most helpful throughout.

avalon - I belong to the Military Officer's Association of America www.moaa.org as a retired Officer.

They sent us an email advertising their travel services and DW found the hotel and rate there. Until then, I did not know they had such services. Looking at the site, it appears that non members can register as a "friend of an Officer" guest or as a non member Officer or Enlisted guest. I could not get far enough into the guest registration site to know if one has to name the Officer friend or if the Officer friend has to be a member.

The rate they offered for a standard double/twin at the M Baily was $172 for Saturday and $116 for Sunday, inclusive of all taxes and fees. I saw some similar rates on other travel sites but they did not include taxes and fees making them significantly higher.
The rate is pre paid and not refundable.

Lesson learned - check organizations you may belong to - there could be some pleasant surprises.

Years ago the US Officers Club (Columbia Club) was on Bayswater Rd/Lancaster Gate - now the Columbia Hotel - and the first time we stayed there it was $7 a night !!

I stayed once as a guest at the French Officer's club in Strasbourg - it was wonderful and its restaurant was superb.

They seem to have approximately six auctions going at any given time - some in pounds and some in euros.

I did my homework on this and the lowest winning bids were in the 150 range (funnily, both euro + pound); average winning bids were in the 170 range. Highest winning bids ran over 200 pound and euro.
