Milan Malpensa Hotel?

I'm looking for a nice, clean, hotel near the Malpensa Airport. Has anyone tried the Hotel Cervo? It looks convenient but I'd like to hear from someone with first hand knowledge? Also, what about the Hotel Cavalieri della Corona?

I haven't stayed ther yet but I made reservations at ascot malpensa - a four star hotel for 95 euros a night double that includes buffet breakfast begins at 6:30 am and has free shuttle to malpensa. I think it is in same town as Cavalieri. We have to be at airport very early for us (on vacation) and I wanted extra time to sleep. It is only 5 min from airport. It is on airport website.

We chose Hotel One Malpensa. Very good rates, terrific staff, a lounge, everything new and spotlessly clean. When they picked us up with their free shuttle, we rode past Hotel Cervo which looked dark and uninviting. Hotel One offers its best rates on its own website. Very inexpensive.

We chose First Hotel (www.firsthotel.it) which worked very well for us. They had a shuttle to & from the terminals (very, very early in the morning for our needs), a good restaurant, and clean, nice rooms.

we only stayed at the cervo because for some reason all the rooms elsewhere were even MORE expensive.

we were only going to be in room about 8 hours.

it has gotten some decent reviews.. so it makes me think the annex we were in is different than the main hotel rooms. That is the only explanation i can give to my displeasure with our functional motel style room.

shuttle was NOT free when we were there two years ago.

i will look elsewhere next time, i guarantee you.

We are staying in sept. I got rate on hrs.de it was cheaper than website by 10 euros.Hotel does not have restaurant but will shuttle you to local restaurants for dinner. I like hrs website as they let you put in special requests so hotel you are booking has a better idea what is most important to you. Hotel website is www.ascotmalpensa.com .

dorkforcemom: of course we also stayed at First Hotel Malpensa. Why I called it "Hotel One Malpensa" is quite beyond me. My poor old brain is fairly useless these days. But at least we both liked the same hotel. ;-)

We stayed at the Cervo before a flight out of Milan. It is a motel, which was strange. I don't know, I just never thought of motels in Europe! Anyway, it wasn't charming, kind of a cement block room that looked out on a parking lot. But it was just fine for sleeping and showering before we left for the airport at 4:30a.m. The price was right, they had breakfast for us (roll & coffee) and the shuttle was free, but ofcourse we tipped.

Now I am having second thoughts over booking Hotel Cervo for one night before flying out of Malpensa. The website of one of those other hotels indicated that the cost was about 40E more than Cervo. We plan to have dinner in Milan so will only be there to sleep. Does this hotel have decent beds? Noise would be a real concern. It is my understanding that the shuttle cost 3E.

i assume you will be able to sleep at el cervo. noise did not seem to be a problem for us. it was the dead of autumn, and cold, so no open windows.

we had very late arrival and just crashed.

i don't remember the beds, so they were probably o.k.
we were just glad to have not spent even MORE elsewhere.

the shuttle was NOT free october 2004. maybe they are upgradng their services.

i think this all depends on how much you are willing to spend for a few hours' rest.

The place was NOT dirty, if that worries you, but as mentioned, has NO charm.

Nina: Shuttle 3E is that one from Milan train station to Malpensa? When I took shuttle last year from Milan train station to Malpensa it was 5E and it took about 55 min. Or does Hotel Cervo have it's own shuttle? I would request a quiet room from hotel. Last year I got a very good rate from hotel Berna but it was not from hotel website it was on hotel.de for 75 euros for a double but we have to be at airport much earlier this year so are staying near airport. If you don't have to be at airport early in morning try hrs.de or hotel.de or venere.com and see what rates they offer. Sometimes they are lower than hotel and try them later. Rates often vary so you might be able to get a lower rate now or later.

zozozo--I think the shuttle for 3E means from Hotel Cervo to Malpensa--could not be more than a mile away. We booked this hotel for 93E night for two people for the night of April 9. It includes breakfast and I do not expect it to be anything elaborate. Our flight home is not super early but we ran into a problem booking a room in Milan due to what is called the World's Largest Furniture Exhibition at that time. The hotels we considered were booked up.

I don't have to be at Malpensa at the crack of dawn. What town to the north would you recommend for two or three nights and still close enough to Malpensa to arrive at around 9:00 A.M. Thanks

Two years ago we stayed at the Hotel Cervo prior to an early flight. It was basic, but served our needs quite well. We are always anxious to get home and not extremely concerned about anything other than basics. The dinner was fine and the shuttle was free. Would absolutely stay here again. I was very impressed as to the efficiency of the shuttle.

larrya, the city of Gallarate is only about 10 minutes from Malapensa Airport. I have stayed at the Hotel Astoria which is in the middle of Gallarate, right across the street from the main piazza, which is rather like a park. Double (I looked at the webpage) is 144euro right now.

Will you have a car? If you are staying 2 or 3 nights you could drive to one of the nearby lakes, have lunch at Stresa, take the ferry to Isola Bella etc. If you wanted you could stay in Milan also.

Maybe you should start your own thread with your trip information so you could get ideas from several Fodorites.
