Is there an additional charge for luggage on a vaporetto to Venice? If so, how much?

We were not charged for luggage on the vaporetto. I have actually never heard of luggage charges for the vaporetto, but be sure that you can handle your bags on your own as there will be no one to assist you.

No charge...and if you can handle your luggage on the train, the vaporetto will be no problem.

But if you have to walk far from the vaporetto to your hotel, remember that there are cobblestones and steps up and down the bridges over canals...

No, never. The vaporetti are Venice's public transportation (like a bus would be to another city), they can't charge. As a courtesy to others, if you have a lot of suitcases, stand against the side (walls) so you don't block the standing room for the other passengers.

Can't speak from first hand experience, but in researching for my trip next month, I read (I believe in the Fodor's for Venice) that there is a charge for luggage bigger than 28 inches, I believe.

Yes, theoretically, there is a charge. But, I've never seen anyone taken to task over this & don't know whether it is ever enforced. We did not pay when we rolled our bags onto the vaporetto.

Actually it is clearly posted that it is the equivalent of a fare for a large suitcase. But I've never paid it, nor have I known anyone else to.
Funny part is, this year when we arrived and got on the vaparetto at the station, as soon as we pulled out there were "cops" checking for tickets -- first time I ever saw that. We were both sort of straddling our large suitcases, as were other people, when they checked our passes, but never said a word about the luggage, so it's clear that it isn't a big issue.

As people have mentioned, there is an official charge for luggage on the vaporetto. I have been there many times though and have never paid one. When the vaporetto is full, luggage is painful enough without a charge.

I had to pay for 1 piece of luggage this past July. It's a size issue. We had a lot of luggage but only piece was charged an extra 5 euro.

There is a charge and I think it is up to the ticket seller you happen to get if it is enforced or not, sometimes I have had to pay and sometimes not.

It wasn't that much money though, so don't worry about it, just worry, like others have said, about getting your luggage on board without banging your shins.

As I recall, there is a section in the middle of the boat, as you board, that you can put your luggage out of the way of the other passengers.

The problem would not be paying the charge but any luggage is a bit difficult to maneuver onto a vaporetto (the loading dock moves, the boat moves, it can be extremely crowded, etc.)

I would use another (i.e. private water taxi) way if you have any more than a single small to medium size rolling suitcase per person.

YES there is a charge of e3.50 per siutcase I was there last week.
On the #82 and there she was a guard telling me that I had buy a ticket for the suitcase
