luggage stolen from airport baggage claim??

We flying into Vencie on Sept 22 - concerned about checking my bags for fear that someone will swipe them off the baggage claim before I get to them. I saw someone's response to not checking nice luggage, but does anyone have anything else to add? Thanks

Our rule of thumb is Never, never, never take anything travelling that you would weep over losing.

Having said that, if you are careful and observant with your luggage, that's about all you can do! My luggage has never beaten me to the carousel. YMMV.

"Nice" luggage wasn't meant to be checked on planes anyway...DURABLE luggage is, however, and I'll be VERY surprised if your luggage beats you to the claim area in Venice.

Since there are two of you, I suggest you pack a few articles of clothing in each other's bags. That way if one bag goes missing (highly unlikely) the unfortunate person will have a clean shirt, etc.

I don't think I've ever arrived at a baggage claim after my bags, either, even internationally.

I sort of think if you worry about things like that, travel must be too anxiety producing. What's the point of having nice luggage if you're afraid to use it, I'd say.

try valium or something

buck, ease up a bit. Do you really think unionized italian bag handlers are going to work that fast?

I suppose one possible alternative is to wear everthing you are going to take on the plane and check the luggage empty! They usually don't try to steal clothes off your back in Europe, especially not after they've had a chance to see it
