Looking for nice, clean, hotel in the midle of town not to expensive?
My Parents and I are taking a Mediterranean cruise leaving Rome 4/29/10. We thought it would be a great idea to come a few days earlier to see the sights. We are flying in 4/26/10 and need a moderate place to stay. 35 years ago my parents stayed at the Cicarone which is still I hear very nice but a litle on the expensive side for three people about $420.00 US dollars per day. We were told of two hotels the Agusta Lucille Palace and the Astoria Gardens. Has anyone ever stayed there? Can anyone provide suggestions?

Both hotels are near Termini: a central location with good transport connections, perfectly safe but not particularly charming. Augusta Lucilla is quite new; Astoria Garden has been around for a while.

The Hotel Del Senato is about as central as you can get and would meet your budget limit; look at reviewfor below hotels on TripAdvisor:

You could also try Hotel Ponte Sisto:

Or Hotel Teatro di Pompeo:

In your other post you refer to hotels near the Vatican. The Vatican is not central. To get an sense of the most historical area, go to hotel booking site http://www.venere.com/ , put in Rome and your dates, and near the top you'll see the choice "Find Hotels on the Map". You want to select areas "Navona" or "Pantheon" to be the most central.
