On a previous post of yours - - http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34577650 - - I cited a thread with a link to "Zamec" in Olomouc (actually, 5-10 miles outside of town), even though I have never actually been there (not to the hotel, nor to the town of Olomouc).
It was on the website www.motylek.com but I cannot get that link to open up right now. But they do have this rather attractive place listed on their site:
http://www.motylek.com/olomouc/lafayette/default.asp
Listed as four star, but I do not see the prices.
Best wishes,
Rex

Olomouc is a modest, small Czech city in Moravia, so there are not many 4* hotels. I think I may have stayed at about the only 4* hotel right in the very center of Olomouc, and I do recommend it highly, it was a wonderful hotel (Hotel Gemo).

I chose it because I was traveling by train and wanted to be within easy walking distance of sightseeing in Olomouc.
The hotel's rooms that do not look over the street would be quieter, but the rooms were wonderful in comfort and style and size. It was pretty cheap, also, for a 4* hotel in comparison to a larger city (double now are around 3000 CK, a bit over US$100).
It is not what I would call "quaint", however, depending what you mean by that. It is authentic and in a historic building, but the rooms are refurbished and in a beautiful Art Deco style, not quaint. The bar and restaurant are nice, also.
I was looking for the same thing as you -- a nice 3-4* hotel, but limited to a very central location. I found a couple other nice looking hotels but they weren't as convenient a location, and some were way outside of the city. This is not a small village, it's a city of around 100K population. I found some others just be a Google search with hotels and Olomouc.

Oh, if you are only there one day, then I think that is perfect, The main square is just around the corner, and there are many restaurants within a short walk. YOu can walk around the old town easily.
The hotel is really very nice, I only had a regular double room and it was like a suite with a table and chairs, and quite large. I think I may have booked a superior double as the rates were so reasonable. The staff are very nice, also, and the breakfast excellent.
If you are going by train, there is a very helpful tourist service at the train station that can give you a map and information on things to see. It is also a very cheap taxi ride to the hotel from the station.
