Can anyone recommend a play or musical in London playing now (we'd like to see shows on 10/15 and 16)? We have already seen Stomp, Lion King, and Phantom. Wanted to see Mamma Mia but it's sold out during our visit. We don't know much about the plays - probably prefer something with music but a really good play would be great. My sister doesn't think she can take two hours of Queen music so We Will Rock You is out. Also, are there any websites for discounted theater tickets? I know about the TKTS booths.

The Producers. Wonderful slapstick comedy. Mel Brooks at his best. I saw it in August and laughed the whole way through.

There are loads of musicals on at the moment. Of the old favourites I think Chicago is very good and on a different theme the producers. If you want straightforward 'tunes' then the Rat Pack is excellent - as long as you enjoy that kind of music! Good luck.

A second thought. I also saw the Philadelphia Story starring Kevin Spacey. He was sensational. However, there was a young British actress who did a horrid American accent (but otherwise, she was fine). It really hurt my ears.

If I had to pick between the Producers and Philadelphia Story? The Producers, hands down.

I think loving "The Producers" depends on how much of a Mel Brooks fan you are.
I'm only a moderate one, so only moderately liked the show.

High Society, the musical version of Philadelphia Story, opens Oct 1. Billy Ellliot is based on the movie with music by Elton John.

Also, Ewan McGregor is starring in Guys and Dolls through Dec 3. The reviews say his singing is so-so, but his dancing and charisma make up for it.

I'd avoid Richard II because you know sequels are never as good as the original. ;-)

It's possible that you will be able to get tickets to Mamma Mia from the half price booth in Leicester Square. If you want to see a thriller go see The Woman in Black.

No, you won't find Mamma Mia at TKTS 1/2 price booth. But you very likely could see it even on a sold out night. They sell returns every day at the theatre. It will be a VERY unusual day to not have any returns available. But it does mean you have to queue at the theatre for an hour or more a couple hours before curtain.

It is often easier to get returns for matinees since they are sold early in the day and usually fewer folks turn out to queue.

We just saw Les Miserables at The Queen's Theatre in Picadilly two weeks ago. The lead character is an OUTSTANDING singer, and the entire production was top drawer. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I was going to recommend Les Miz also; a classic still going strong. Tickets are usually available at the TKTS booth but that means making a trip there in the morning.

I loved Bloodbrothers. Music is great- the setting is London and it's been playing so long that you should be able to get in. I thought it was the perfect London musical.
