I submitted a response to janisj, but I'm not sure what happened to it. At least it's no appearing for me.
So if this is a duplicate....I'm sorry.
It is vacation. We've decided to spend one week in London, one week in Paris for our summer vacation. We haven't been to either place.
There are three of us and we'd like a 2 bedroom apartment so we can eat in and do some laundry. We've used vrbo and flipkey but if many places have already been booked or out of our price range. This one is $314 usd.
I don't mind "heading in" in the morning for our sightseeing and then relaxing at the apartment in the evening. It appears there is a large mall etc in the vicinity with restaurants.
PatrickLondon- is there a tube station close by? If commuting wasn't a big issue, is it worthwhile?
I'm open to other suggestions/leads, even a one bedroom as long as my son doesn't end up on an uncomfortable sofa bed.
Thanks for the responses!

It's a short bus ride or longer walk to the tube at Canary Wharf:

I'm no expert on accommodation alternatives - is that rate per week or per night?

HOLY CR*P that's a lot of money to pay for a rental apartment generally and especially for one that is nowhere near the places you will be during the day. There are TONS of websites (and largely reputable ones at that -- Janis has a boatload at her fingertips, I'm sure) that will get you into the heart of London for far less.
Sheeyoot, we were offered apartments in the 800 GBP range for 10 days with 2 bedrooms in the Queensway area, which is WAY closer to central London than Canary Wharf. You need to look again, that location sucks for a tourist.
There are also apartment hotels (Citadines?) that are less than 200 GBP/night and in far better locations. Seriously, go back to the drawing board and save some money to boot.

Thank you Big Russ. I did look into Citadines Covent Garden. It was a one bedroom for 214 gbp/night or $345 USD. It was the only one that came up when I did a search.
It is high season and I started planning a bit late.
I'm ready to give it one more try...let's approach it this way.
What area of London would you recommend I stay in for a first time visitor? We're in our 50's and our son is 17. We plan to do a lot of walking.
Our plan was to eat breakfast in.....do whatever during the day including having a nice lunch "in town" and then head home to have a light dinner, kick back, relax at the apartment. But for enough of a savings, we could stay in a hotel room and eat out more often.
Back to more internet surfing! Maybe I'll get lucky (I've been trying for a week to find something.)
Appreciate all comments. Thanks!

since we don't know your dates -- can't tell if these are available . .
But give them a try
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~hamlet_uk/
The two bedrooms are barely over $200 a night and the one bedrooms (which are plenty big enough for a party of 3) run about $170 a night.
They are right next door to the Tower of London and on a yacht marina w/ lots of pubs/restaurants. It isn't the most central location -- but 10000% more central than Canary Wharf.
(And if you are only staying 6 nights - they would still be cheaper to book a week and 'eat' one night)
I'll look for others -- but having your dates would help a bit.

Oakwood -- it's a worldwide corporate apartment chain. Good accommodations and far less than 200 GBP per. At this point, they should waive their 30-day stay requirement to get the apts filled. There are a bunch in London. When I was 90 days out from my last trip, they wrote me to say they would waive and let us stay for a week-plus, but we'd found a place.

I don't know the area that well, though I have been around there to visit the Canal Museum, and this particular street (Northdown St) looks fine on Google Streetview (though Caledonian Road, the main road for the area, still looks a bit on the worn side). It's certainly much better in terms of access to the rest of London and services more or less on the doorstep.
If I hesitate to say much more, it's because 10-15 years ago, this wasn't the nicest part of the world, but AFAIK it has gone up in the world with the general redevelopment of St Pancras, etc (this is where we could have used a certain policeman of our acquaintance who knew that part of the world very well).

This offer came through today....Any comments appreciated.
I'm not sure if it has any bearing, but I think the higher prices and lack of availability might be because it's the 2nd week of Wimbledon....

Could be but I sort of doubt it. London is huge w/ thousands of accommodations. Wimbledon is a blip on the calendar.
This latest listing looks really nice and is in a much nicer location.
(I do think some of the text in the "Area Information" is more than a bit weird though. This property is not near Portobello Rd or the Westfield Mall and why any mention of Shepherd's Bush and Brook Green?? And >>one of London's most aspiring environs, epitomised by the behemoth Westfield shopping centre<< -- HUH?? I guess being a landlord doesn't make one an intelligible writer)

Cornwall Mews looks much better, certainly in terms of location and access to shops, restaurants, etc, assuming the price is right - "from" £900 suggests it may well be more expensive for when you want. Obviously the landlord has a different set of personal priorities from most visitors!

I know you are still looking, but if you end up at the ones in St. Katharine's Dock area - that is a really neat area. Nice to walk around at night and while not as central as other things, the Tower Hill tube is easy, convenient and nearby. (also convenient for Ceremony of the Keys!).
If they truly have an outdoor space, that also is a major bonus...

Thank you everyone.
Waiting on a confirmation for the Glouster Mews property. Hopefully that will come through soon.
Haven't had any reply from the St. Katherine flat. I like being near water so that sounded great.
