We stayed there a few years ago and loved it. It is run by a very charming family, and the service was great. The location was wonderful - very close to Piazza San Marco. The rooms are not super luxe, but quite atmospheric. I'd return in a heartbeat.

My husband and I stayed there about 5 years ago and it was amazing. I loved the location. It's just off of the piazza, but the noise from the crowds disappears as soon as you step into the inn's courtyard. I loved going out for an early morning walk - I was practically alone in front of the basilica. Take a look at the reviews on TripAdvisor. They sound too good to be true, but Locanda Orseolo really is that good.

I stayed at Locanda Orseolo in June, 2010. Great location. Just a short walk from the vaporetto stop near San Marco. Beautiful rooms and the most congenial staff. Near everything. We wished we had stayed longer but am planning to go back. I would not stay anywhere but Locanda Orseolo.

You can book directly on their website. Then you'd know immediately.
We stayed there in April-May of this year and loved it. I do know people who would not like it, though, as they expect world class 5-star hotel and service. This would not be at that level, nor would we want that. Locanda Orseolo was indeed very nice and had the best hospitality hands down of anywhere we've ever stayed.

We stayed there in May of this year. I loved it and will definitely stay there next time.
The location is very convenient and you'd think it would be noisy being so close to San Marco but it is very quiet.
We took a water taxi there from the cruise ship and one to the airport and loved entering and exiting through the water door in the hotel.
Our room was quite spacious for a standard room with a good sized bathroom. The decor throughout was charming and the hospitality outstanding.

elnap29 ... You win some ... & you loose some. The rate was the same as their website.
Happy with the rate & booked it. They are going to send me directions, but I was wondering if it is easy to arrive from the train station ? Do you know ? Thanks

If you have not been to Venice before, the simplest way is to take the vaporetto to the San Marco stop (not the San Marco Valaresso stop). Then walk a diagonal across the Piazza San Marco to the calle that goes to Piazza San Gallo. Locanda Orseolo will give you excellent directions with photos. Then you can look it up on Google Earth or other maps. (The Valaresso stop is closer but I'm not sure how to describe the route). But either way it is about a 10-minute walk from the vaporetto stop with one very small bridge.
We arrived at the airport and took a water taxi right to the door of the Locanda. EASY! but 110 Euros. We left Venice by walking to the San Marco Valaresso stop and taking the vaporetto to the train station. Now that we are familiar with Venice I wouldn't hesitate to take Alilaguna or vaporetto, but we arrived with serious jet lag late in the day, so the water taxi was a welcome splurge.

We took the vaporetto from the train station to San Marco and it was a very easy walk to the hotel. But on our way to the airport, we took a taxi and got to leave LO through a really cool little door that opened out onto the canal. Loved that.

elenap29 Thanks for the info. Sounds very easy. Last 2 times I was in Venice, we also took the water taxi to the hotel from the airport. Loved it !
txrree ... Looks like the vaporetto is the way to go. I saw the little door on the interenet &
it does look cool !
