Le Meridian Russel Square-London

We are planning a trip this August toLondon and wonder if anyone has ever stayed at this hotel? Would appreciate feedback. What is Russell Square like?

Don't know this hotel but Russell Sq. is very nice square. It was all replanted over the past few months. I saw it torn up in Feb but others say the work is done now so it will probably look quite nice. Very close to a tube station on the Piccadilly line which makes it convenient to the popular tourist sights. Also, if you are planning to rent a car to exit London, there is a Budget and a EuropCar rental office right off Russell Sq. on Woburn Place so it would be convenient for that, too.

Stacey,
You should not worry, the Le Meridian Hotels are known for the quality service they offer around the world and the Russell Square area is a very nice part of London. I hope you got a good deal that hotel chain is usually very expensive.

Have a great trip.

I am off to London in a few weeks and was tempted by the LOW prices at The Russell until I learned that these are the "economy" rooms that have not yet been renovated. Some travelers were very disappointed with the condition of these rooms, also note that they do not have air conditioning. Although London doesn't typically have extreme temperatures in summer, the last time I was there they had a heat wave with a swealtering 98F for the entire trip. Very nice hotel in great location, but bargain rooms do not compare with typical rooms at this hotel.

I stayed in one of the "economy" rooms at Le Meridien Russell Square (better known as Hotel Russell) three weeks ago and couldn't have been more pleased. Our room had big doors you could open to let cool air in. It was a bit worn, but very very clean. The hotel itself has tons of character and the location is very convenient- right around the corner from the Russell Square tube stop, short walk to the British Museum. I'm hoping they don't renovate these rooms before I visit London next time around!

The average temps in London aren't so high that I feel I need a/c, but it a/c is a must, consider booking elsewhere. Be aware, though, that many lower-priced London hotels don't have it.

I would like the Meridian website address, which I couldn't find on Google. Thanks!

www.lemeridien-hotels.com/ (The trick is to spell 'meridien" right, which only KT did amongst the earlier posters.)
