One Last Clothing Question!
I leave for Paris/London in 4 hours and I'm freaking out. The weather forecast says mostly cloudy with highs in the mid to upper 60's and lows in the upper 40's to low 50's. Folks, I've been living in Phoenix for six years and don't have a clue what this kind of weather feels like anymore. I'm already into my second suitcase, which is a no-no for me, because of sweaters and such. I'm thinking I need to take my leather jacket now. Can anyone help me on this short notice?

Sue - I hope you get this before you go! Check the forecast again - the BBC this morning were predicting a heatwave across southern England starting tomorrow with temps. reaching 27C by Friday (80F - 90F - I'm not great at conversion!) Next week it will return to normal, about 60s - 70s. I'd suggest chucking in some t-shirts and shorts for this weekend, but taking your jeans & sweaters too!

www.bbc.co.uk/weather might be useful.

Sue- Take one good dark sweater that goes with everything- jeans, nice pants, or a skirt. Then bring what you originally planned. Remember, you are going to the fashion capital of the world and if you need a heavier sweater or long pants or whatever, the shopping there is fantastic! And not just the expensive stuff either! Have a fabulous time- we loved it there!

Do NOT take the leather jacket, it's bulky, not suitable for wet weather, and you probably won't have any use for it. The key, regardless of weather, is to pack versatile layers. Bring two dark sweaters -- one thin, one heavy, so you can wear either or both as weather dictates. Add a waterproof layer to go over all, for wetness or just very windy weather.

Do not start packing lots of sweaters and planning outfits around them, just one or two that will go with everything. A couple pairs of long pants, a few tops, including one or two suitable for hot days (that can also be worn under either sweater) and you're ready for anything!

I found some small shops near our hotel in the 6th Arr., but if I had to shop for something specific (and I didn't want to wasted time)as opposed to just looking around, I would head straight for a department store like Bon Marchi. Just ask the front desk of your hotel where a department store is. Also, there are good 2nd hand stores, again only if you want to spend the time to look.
