lava Oia Suites

Hi Everyone

We are spending 4 nights at the Lava Oia Suites in Oia this coming May. We need to decide whether to book the apartment or studio. We do not need extra room in our unit so much as I want to be sure that we have the veranda and view. Has anyone had any experience with this accomodation or stayed there? Could you recommend any particular units? Brotherleelove...any thoughts........ you have been so helpful on info in this area! Thanks everyone

I haven't inspected this property, but according to several websites I looked at, "Each house features a southeast open-air terrace overlooking the caldera, the volcano and the Aegean sea." I will say that the photos on these websites aren't too helpful in showing the exterior areas, but to me it looks like one terrace sort of flows into the next with not a lot of separation so every guest has an unobstructed view. So as long as a totally private terrace isn't the deal-breaker, I'd say go for the studio unless you absolutely want more room. Save the extra money and spend it on something fun. As an afterthough, why not send them an email and ask whether every room has a terrace or not?

We stayed at the Lavas Oias last June and absolutely LOVED IT! Most all of her houses have a private terrace. There were two that she was still working on that were the highest ones on the cliff and they may have shared a terrace, I can't remember for sure. Our friends had the one in the photo and they had to walk in front of one of the houses to get to their house but, there was a wall between the terraces so they had a private terrace. All the rest were totally separate. I'd still say any of them would be private enough and the view and location are great. The best of all though is Pepitsa, the owner. She went above and beyond!!

I have made a reservation here for May, and am in a studio. (House 'D') I am really looking forward to it, based on the comments I have read!

We stayed in House C, I believe, last October. The view was absolutely AMAZING from our private terrace. All of the Lava Oia properties are in the same location and there are no obstructions or unsightly views (no power lines, construction, ugly buildings, etc.). The location is wonderful. You will love it!

Hi Wug,

Can you tell me about the kitchen at Lava Oia? I know in your previous posting you said it was "small" (which is fine), but I'm wondering if it's possible to make a meal there? What are the facilities? Stovetop? Oven? Microwave? Silverware, dishes, glasses? Small fridge?

thanks for the info!

Wlzmatilida-

In general, most rooms with kitchen facilities (really just a simple kitchenette area) have a small countertop electric unit that looks like a microwave but is actually an oven, with 2 or sometimes 3 burners on the top. Cooking utensils, pots and pans, silverware and dishes are provided. Quality of equipment varies from business to business. There will be a small fridge and a coffee maker. Preparing simple meals are not a problem. You can buy whatever food or spices you need at the local markets.
