late march weather Zurich/Lucerne

How will the scenery or weather be like in late March in Zurich and Lucerne? Will there be snow on the ground or will it be gorgeous and green? I'm hoping for postcard pictures!!

Hi tahviln,

In the cities it will be neither snowy nor green -- the cities will be mostly overcast with cold rain in late March.

You may find some snow if you ascend one or two of the mountains near Luzern -- Rigi, Pilatus, or Titlis.

Have fun as you plan!

That is way too early for lush and green - March is still ski season in Switz. And cities are never green and pretty.

We have been in early May and had beautiful lush meadows and spring flowers - but mountaintops were still covered in snow.

Temperatures will be between 8° and 15°C. If you are lucky you will catch a few sunny days, but be prepared for cold and rainy weather. The mountains will have deep snow, including Luzern's house mountain Pilatus, but you may find the summits in clouds. Frankly, for postcard pictures, better go in May or June - and stay for a couple of days.

March is rather drier than May. But you got a lot of answers in your LP thread anyway.

May and June are tricky months as well. Having lived in Switzerland for over 30 years, I still can't tell you which month is the best to visit. It varies from year to year.
