Oh my God-I come back home, thinking this post SURELY must be dead, and what do I see, Budman providing expert male commentary on the ladies only post, under the guise of furthering his education! But I give you credit, Budman, at least you're upfront about it: unlike the great unwashed out there who are lurking and "voyeuring" as it were! (grin)

I am a woman so I am qualified to post on this subject
. Very helpful discussion, never though I will see it on this forum. I do like European underwear including bras, so I went for www.hanro.com
to check them out, there are not stores in US, only in Germany. Where one buys it if not traveling to Europe this year.

An inexpensive option - Playtex or 18 Hours available at Wal-mart (used to be able to find them at their "real" outlet store - a cinder block room in the basement of the factory - every Playtex or Champion bra was $5).
A friend who was really hurting during her pregnancy followed my advice and found comfort. Some are prettier than others. A friend who ONLY wore sports bras and never wore the expensive bras she bought in department stores was another convert.
Don't know if they have any in Cool-Max.

Sorry to burst your bubble (so to speak)..but I tried a variation of those "nip-its"..I think they were called Breastshapers or some such thing. I wore them for an evening and then tried to take them off...but I couldn't get a little piece to "grab" on to. I worked it and I worked it and I worked myself into one big sweat. I got into the shower and soaped it..no luck. Then I rubbed lotion all over - nada. Then the vegetable oil (honest to God)...slowly, slowly peeled them off but did it HURT! My nips were free, never to be hidden again!

I've seen some of those pasty things for sale at the local midrange dept. store. I think that's a standard item you can buy lots of places, but wouldn't really serve the purpose of a bra.
I've seen Hanro in a lot of European dept stores and they are expensive, but you can easily buy that brand in the US and not just online. Nordstroms carries Hanro, for example. I think you can probably buy almost any brand in the US if you really want to pay for it.
This isn't really for the breathable fabric issue as they are stretch microfiber, but I also like to wear what I think Lori is calling bralettes -- completely stretchable bras with no hooks. I always take a couple and definitely wear them on the plane -- no problem with metal detectors or hooks digging in when you sleep. I like Barely There brand (they also have a lot of regular bras now) and you can buy them online at www.barenecessities.com They call it "microfiber crop top"
They are more substantial than what you may see called bralettes (which are for teens or very slim figures), although I don't think you could wear them over a B/smallish C cup.
Another good website is www.onehanesplace.com which has Barely There (but not that style for some reason), Bali and those Champion things (which are billed as a "workout bra". Bali owns that company (Barely There), as well as Playtex and Champion, I guess--they all have the same owner. They have some breathable etc bras on that website like Bali Cool Effects. I think any cotton knit bra is going to be fairly comfortable (at least for me).
There are some other brands of totally stretch bras such as Calvin Kline, Danskin, etc, but they aren't as substantial as the Barely There (usually Calvin Kline only as small sizes in my stores --I've never seen over a 36B, for example).
I have just bought a couple of new cheap bras in a line called Bliss by Hanes (which is on the above site) because they are very comfortable and unstructured. They have some in cotton knit.

Bashful: "Nip-its" and other similar products are not the same as what you've described- there's no adhesive involved, (other than what one would get with a band-aid) and they are more like pasties-they peel off very easily. And they're also not meant to take the place of a bra, by any means-they are for those who can or want to go without a bra-but yet not show through.

OK..just checked and they are "Breastshapers".."provides discreet coverage for breast nipples"..they're shaped like flowers and are adhesive but you put a piece of round cloth in the middle so the adhesive is just stuck to the outside..still couldn't get the outside adhesive off..I will look for the actual "nip-its"....Thanks for all the bra suggestions everyone.
