Kinsale

We will be heading to Old Head for golf in mid-October. Any recommendations for Pubs and/or Restaurants in Kinsale?

We arrived in Kinsale later than expected at our hotel, The Blue Haven, and grabbed a quick lunch in their pub -- it was a good step above most pub lunches I've had. In fact it was so good we decided to eat in their dining room that evening, and it was one of the best meals I had in Ireland.

I'd second Patrick's recommendation of the Blue Haven; DH and I dined there two years ago. Great seafood and other options for non-fish/crusteacean/mollusk types.

We liked The White House, great food and ale. The Mad Monk wasn't bad either. Kinsale is teeming with restaurants and pubs, so you'll have lots of choices. We didn't eat there, but The Spaniard, a very ancient pub, had great ambience and beer.

We returned on September 20 from Kinsale and elsewhere.

The best meal we had in Kinsale was at "Annelies". Make reservations.

Patrick/Koshka -
How did you like the Blue Haven, we've heard mixed reviews of late. We stayed at Kieran's last year the room was mediocre, but the dinner & breakfast could not be beat....

WE loved it. It wasn't cheap, but the room was very nice and comfortable, the staff was friendly, the location great, and the food in both restaurants was excellent as mentioned above.

To add to Rickmay's comment, the ambience and beer may be good at The Spaniard but the food is at best just fair. I had mushy scallops-people who had prime ribs were satisfied. Nice place to have cocktails before going out to one of the good restaurants in Kinsale.
