Hi, I would be interested in knowing how the strikes affected you in France,if at all.

I'd love to hear about Venice.
Was it crowded?
Where did you stay?
How long were you there?
What did enjoy most?
Did prices seem high due to Euro/Dollar exchange rates?

Wren:

Well, a little bit. For two days I was able to use the Paris metro ( on a reduced schedule ) for free

And our overnight train from Paris to Rome got moved from Paris Bercy to Paris Gare de Lyon..We were lucky..I think others who were travelling within France were affected a bit more..

Overall everthing was operational, but on a cut down schedule..

dflawyer:

Yes, Venice was crowded to the extent that I felt I was at the Venitian in Vegas..Initially I was very disappointed as it seemed to be very touristy..but the trip to San Marco's Square at 6 am and walking through the Jewish Neighbourhood restored my faith in Venice.

The vaparitto ride from the Termini, all the way to Lido in the eveing sunlight was beautiful..

We stayed at a Lonely Planet recommended hotel near the Termini..Casa Allegro..something something...let ,me know if you need the details...was a safe and clean area..

Getting the day pass for the vaperittos helped a LOT..but other than that..prices were OK..I paid 85 euros for a room with private bathroom..but no AC

MichelleY:

Soon,soon...
