July 2015 - Vienna, Salzburg and Prague

Good morning,

Once again I come to the trusted place to get some advice for an upcoming trip. It will be me, husband and 2 boys 13 & 11. The high level plan is 3 days Vienna, drive to Salzburg, 2 days salzburg and 4-5 days in Prague(train from salzburg to Prague). We will be flying from Chicago last week of July. I have a number of guide books on hold at the local library for reading this weekend. However wanted to get a feel if there is initial advice on the number of days in each place..Thanks,AK

Much as I love Prague I would add one day to Vienna - esp if you are landing their jet lagged and limit Prague to 4 days - which will give you time for one day trip if you want.

Concur with ny traveler. Too much time in Prague and not enough in Vienna.

As you drive to Salzburg, try to allow time for stops in Melk to see the Abbey and perhaps Hallstatt if time allows.

Having moved to Vienna with an 11 and a 16 year-old a couple of years ago, I can only suggest that the time you spend in Vienna and Prague should depend upon your interests. Some families love to tromp through the multitude of Vienna's museums and palaces, some do not. The same can be said for Prague. Please also keep in mind that July can be hot in Central Europe, or it can not; we have experienced both, and everything in between.

I think that once you've decided what you and the family would like to visit, your itinerary will naturally fall together, and the good folks here can help you fill in the missing pieces.

Thanks everyone!!! We love to go to the museums and palaces and try to get in a mix of everything when we visit different countries..I have researched quite a bit(or like my husband would say I have been obsessed with it) and have decided on Prague, Vienna and Budapest(3/3/4 nighs). So I am going to start a new thread - list what I have and solicit responses Thanks everyone again!
