I think that France's aggressive position on free speech, and its fierce secularism, are hard for an American to grasp. That is the kindest thing I can find to say about FrankS's views as expressed in this thread.

I have had two contracts that required me to live in Belguim, once for 3 months the other for 9. That along with DOZENS of trips to Paris, both for pleasue and business, qualifies me to say...you have NO IDEA how foolish you sound describing French Culture

Kerouac, yes it is pertinent because it shows the air traffic mess due to Paris being on lock down right now. They are not letting planes land according to our news here. They are also saying all the shootings and hostage takers are linked.

My thoughts are with the people of Paris and all France. Listening to French radio and the BBC, it's clear that there's enormous unease throughtout the region -- an awful combination of detesting the attacks on one's homeland and uncertainty about what's going on and how it will turn out in the short term. There are two separate siege sites -- one a few miles from CDG airport, a second at a Kosher market at Porte de Vincennes near the peripherique in eastern Paris -- and people have been killed and others held hostage.

Parisiens, parisiennes, français, françaises: you have friends and support throughout the world. Be strong.

well said Don Topaz

They are reporting here that the gunmen holding people hostage in the grocery store might well be part of the original gunmen as the 18 year old swears he was not part of this. Who knows but there is also a women being shown.

Au contraire ann,
It allowed me to see that secular Europen culture promoters are dogmatic, socially irresponsible, illogical, and anti-faith. They must invent fantasies & placebos to cloud the minds of their zombie hordes to maintain secular wickedness. They scorn TRUE free speech and thought , instead demanding slavish obedience to the ridiculous and quite fanciful narrative they've concocted, institutionalized, and beguiled or force their masses to accept

"demanding slavish obedience to the ridiculous and quite fanciful narrative they've concocted, institutionalized, and beguiled or force their masses to accept"

Great description of religious fundamentalists. Of which the world has far, far, far too many, apparently including FrankS. (Still wondering whether he has ever contributed anything to one of the travel board here.)

thursdaysd, I support unequivocally FrankS, tomsd, and others like them to say what's on their minds.

I also support enthusiatically all of those people who do not engage in dialogue with such anti-social individuals who spout such reprehensible thoughts. Offering one's own thoughts without acknowledging the nonsense of the radicals seems to me to be a pretty good way to handle the situation.

FrankS, change "secular" to Christian in your last post, and you are describing yourself. You, it appears to me, are NOT a supporter of faith, but only a supporter of your interpretation of your religion. From other posts and threads, I understand that you are a "Christian".

I will remain hopeful that you understand that Christians are represented by no less than 50 separate denominations that have subtle differences in how they interpret the bible. Are YOU certain your denomination is the one that has it correct?

Clearly, Fodor's allows people to speak their minds here, within reason of course, and you exercise your ability to speak here. Just a little bit of advice, unsolicited of course: If you will define some of the words and phrases you use that are different that the common usage, (the phrase Free Speech, e.g.) we may have the ability to understand some minuscule aspect of what you speak. Otherwise, since you don't seem to use words and phrases with the same definitions as the rest of society, you might as well be speaking Etruscan.

What do my denominations religious views have to do with this? Christians were insulted by Hebdo as well, so? We dont respond violently. As Christians know there is all of eternity for Hebdo cartoonists to pay for their wickedness. Ironically, the terrorists can still repent of their murders and be saved from eternal torment, while that time is passed for the cartoonists. However, I have a feeling the cartoonists and terrorists will share eternity together in the Lake of Fire.

yea verily, FrankS seemeth to take "talking in tongues" to new heights [or depths].

FrankS - in case you haven't noticed, the vast majority of Moslems don't respond violently either. Your equating the cartoonists with their murderers just encourages the fanatics.

FrankS, what if the victims, right before being shot "repented" their sins, then they avoid the apocryphal portions of Revelations, right?

Or is your denomination one that believes that Revelation was actually a story of Nero and has already happened?

That is why your denomination is important.

Glad to see as well that you absolutely refuse to let us understand what you mean by some of your phrases like "Free Speech".

I must assume that you are acting "christlike" and not answering any questions or letting anyone else have a chance to understand your enlightenment? Oh wait, that is the opposite of Jesus.

My christian denomination clearly differs from yours. We believe in helping those less fortunate, and following the "judge not lest ye be judged" parts of the bible.

Really?
My denomination read the entire Bible before issuing cliches in place of true faith, and no we arent some end time cult. My doctrine is right out of the early 17th century and described well in the Reformation catechisms

1 Corinthians 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

Yes, Saints are worthy to judge the world. The 'judge not' caution is directed towards hypocrites.

In Reformed Theology all the ELECT are Saints, we arent required to conform to a heretical group in Rome to announce the title

That's very convenient. Who devised those rules?

Angela Merkel and David Cameron are coming to Paris on Sunday to march in support of free speech even when it criticises religion. Are they going straight to hell?
