Je suis Charlie aussi - not just because of the victims but the idea of free speech and not having to fear for your lives by expressing something - that even maligning the Prophet causes this indites that type of Islamism - but let's not forget that the bulk of Moslems in France, the UK and USA and all around the world do NOT endorse that extreme type of Islamic interpretation.

Yes Je suis Charlie and also hope that 99.99% of Moslems who are not like that also express that they are charlie - too bad fear and intimidation will prevent that.

I am a staunch opponent of the death penalty but if caught I'd suggest France bring out the guillotine and put it to good use!

trouble is, the misguided fanatics who do this sort of thing don't care about public opinion, in fact they revel in the opprobrium they attract.

I'm happy to be Charlie too, but i wish that I thought that it would do any good.

the misguided fanatics who do this sort of thing don't care about public opinion

But it is very important to the rest of us. Solidarity seems to be crumbling all too often, but this sort of event helps to bring countries back together.

In any case, the three terrorists have now been identified.

I think it is very important to voice one's thoughts in support of free speech as loudly as possible, wherever one can. Truly, the more the better. They can't kill everybody.

I found these responses from other professional cartoonists to be great tributes to the staff of Charlie Hebdo:

Good point, Kerouac.

what helped us when the IRA was at its worst [i was in London at the time] was the stiff upper lip and carrying on. That's what Brits do when under threat and it made us feel better. I'm sure that there is something that the french do too and i hope that it works for them.

Actually, annhg, the staff of Charlie Hebdo would still be alive if those fanatics were indifferent to public opinion.
