Didn't know there were any that you should avoid. We just returned from 2-1/2 weeks in Tuscany and Cinque Terre, drinking water everywhere we went. Some were very tiny villages. I'd also be interested for future reference as to locations where it's not advisable.

I've been drinking from the tap of the apartment I rented in Venice all week.
So far so good.
I did buy several half-liter bottles when I took day trip to Padova and Verona because the heat was unbearable and paid up to 1.50 Euros for it.

There are some fountains in Italy with water that is not safe for drinking. They are cleary marked with signs saying so.
Other than that the water is fine - unless you're one of those people with a very sensitive stomach - and then water in many countries will bother you and you should probably stick to a brand of bottled water you know you can drink.
