Italy or Spain in February?

Hi - want to go somewhere not too cold in February for about 10 days. Trying to decide on Italy or Spain. If you have any other suggestions in Europe, it would be appreciated.

What do you mean by not too cold?

Northern Italy is quite chily and it can snow as far south as Rome - although that's unusual.

Also - much of Spain can be cold - Madrid is on a high plateau and has a real winter - with skiing in the mountains. It can be somewhat warmer in parts of the south - but definitley not beach weather - for that you need SE Asia or the Carib.

Islas Canarias, the Azores, or the Basque country straddling Spain and France - they don't get real cold, all hovering around averages of upper fifties or so, daytime higher, nighttime cooler, of course.

Italy was very cold this past February. Rome was cold, but mostly tolerable. In Florence we almost couldn't bear to be outside. And it snowed on us in Venice. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. But it doesn't sound like it fits your requirements.

Sorry, but not in Europe.
Try Barbados.

I would head further south, to Sicily or Greece, in February, as there is a good chance that it will get warmer,
Average temps for Sicily in February are mid to high 60's-and could be even higher, Athens is much the same. February would be an ideal time to visit Sicily, with good deals to be found on hotel rates, as it will still be low season there.

You can take your chances along the Italian Riviera between France and Genova. Bordighera was a legendary winter holiday spot for the British. San Remo is there as well.

South Spain (Costa del Sol) can be warm in February though cold at night. Italy will possibly be below freezing. Try the Canary islands, which are Spanish islands off the coast of Morocco and are hot all year around. Tenerife is quite busy. Gran Canary is more relaxed and has better beaches. Lanzarote is small and quiet. Cheap holidays available from the UK.
