Isle sur la Sorgue as a base?
I guess that says it all. We will be in this part of Provence for maybe 4 days...
Would this town be a good base? We were originally considering St Remy, but it seems that the Luberon villages will be easier to see from Isle sur la Sorgue.
Feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

We stayed in a house for a week in Isle Sur la Sorgue in 1996 and had no trouble using it as a base. It was close enough to everything we wanted to see. We also enjoyed the market there and searching the town for the 7 (?) waterwheels.

Ok: 1 for St Remy and 1 for Isle sur la Sorgue. Anyone want to break the tie?
I've been reading about both towns, but it is hard to make a judgement from the printed word.
I'm attracted to the market and antique shops in Isle sur la Sorgue.
St Remy seems like it has more to see. Oh dear oh dear...

Isle is a place that has so many buildings and shops that house antiques and the Sunday flea market, stay there if it's your passion, the antiques. You are not far from St Remy to enjoy that also.
and both are an easy ride to the Luberon. Check out my favorite shop in Lourmarin. "Coté Bastide." I love their natural fragrances and have bought their linens for body and house through the years.

We stayed in L'Ile sur la Sorgue for 2 weeks last September. It was a good base as we had day trips to Mount Ventoux, Avignon, Orange and Vaison-la-Romaine, Aix-en-Provence, Arles,Les Baux, St Remy, Roissillon, Gordes, Bonnieux and Lourmarin. We grouped some towns together and sometimes returned for a closer look if we ran out of time.
We never felt we were driving for too long to get anywhere as the scenery was wonderful with many interesting villages along the way.
There are many cafes & restaurants to choose from. The old town was a nice place to walk and window shop as well.

We stayed in Isle-sur-la Sorgue, and I remember it well. There was a laudrodromat which we were very excited about finding having been "on the road" for weeks with a small child and lots of dirty laundry. Maybe this could be the deciding factor for you!!

We rented a house about 2 km from the town. A new housing developement had overtaken it so was very surburban. There were nicer areas but as we were out most days and it had a good outdoor area we didn't mind.
The traffic around the old town got a little hectic at times - market days and peak hour. I would look for a place on the edge of the town where you could walk to cafes and restaurants - we were pulled up for a breath test the first night we were there and after that mostly ate at home with the fresh market produce.
There was only one internet place when we were there which always had people waiting. It was down a narrow lane near the church.
